Job description

The VP, Head of Brand for Retirement Solutions is responsible for leading and integrating TIAA's brand presence across media, sports marketing, creative studio, advertising, social media, and brand strategy - all in service of driving measurable business growth for the Retirement Solutions business. Reporting to the Retirement Solutions CMO within the Marketing & Communications organization, this leader will serve as the connective tissue between brand investment and business outcome, ensuring every dollar works harder and every partnership tells a coherent story.

A central mandate of this role is building a best-in-class marketing engine that maximizes the value of TIAA's growing partnership portfolio - including partnerships with the Big Ten, Ivy League, three professional golfers, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Philadelphia Marathon, and more - transforming those assets into integrated campaigns that deepen institutional client relationships and drive new business. TIAA's retirement business represents 87% of its business overall, making this a deeply consequential role for the organization.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Brand Strategy.Continue building on the enduring brand foundations of TIAA Retirement Solutions -Ensuring Today. Securing Tomorrow.Anchor brand development in a deep understanding of TIAA's audiences, partnering with peers to strengthen marketing strategies across Plan Sponsors, Consultants, Participants, and Wealth Eligible segments. Manage teams across advertising, social, and paid media to bring audience plans to life with clarity and conviction.
  • Partnerships & Sponsorship Activation.Maximize TIAA's collegiate and broader sports sponsorship portfolio by building a disciplined content engine that converts media assets, event integrations, and hospitality opportunities into compelling, multi-channel brand moments. Ensure that sponsorship investments are fully activated and connected to campaign and client engagement strategies.
  • Integrated Campaign Leadership.Drive the development of integrated campaign strategies that bridge upper-funnel brand building with mid- and lower-funnel business outcomes. Lead paid media efforts and agency, social, and performance marketing teams to ensure consistency and effectiveness across the full audience journey.
  • Creative Studio.Partner with the lead Creative Director to enhance the creative studio function across the US and India, setting the standard for quality, innovation, and on-brand execution across all content and advertising. Inspire internal and external creative partners to produce work that is both distinctive and purposeful.
  • Team Leadership.Lead a team of approximately 20 senior to mid-level associates with a management philosophy rooted in clarity, generosity, humanity, and high-caliber work. Build talent, create development pathways, and foster a culture where companionship and excellence coexist.
  • Executive Partnership.Serve as a senior brand advisor to Retirement Solutions leadership, translating business priorities into brand strategies and advocating internally for the role of brand in driving awareness, consideration, and client retention.
  • Governance & Compliance.Partner with legal, compliance, and risk stakeholders to uphold brand standards and protect TIAA's reputation across all channels and activations.

15+ years of experience in marketing, with at least 5 years of experience in a senior marketing The ideal candidate brings 15 or more years of experience across brand strategy, creative, and marketing disciplines, with meaningful experience leading large, integrated teams in complex organizational environments. Financial services experience is valued but not required - what matters most is a track record of turning brand investment into business results.

Additional preferred qualifications include a strong command of both B2B and B2B2C dynamics; demonstrated experience managing large-scale sponsorships or partnership portfolios; the ability to build and lead a content engine at scale; fluency in audience data and media measurement; and the credibility and communication skills to influence senior leadership with confidence and clarity.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
