At St. Vincent de Paul Southwest Idaho we are a network of friends, inspired by gospel values, working to prevent homelessness by providing fundamental human needs and help to our neighbors. Our services cover food pantry, reentry, thrift stores, home visits and a helpline to support the basic human need to stay afloat and avoid homelessness, in addition to Thanksgiving boxes, Christmas Toy Drive, and feeding Americas Heroes.

Primary Function:

Responsible for the processing of donations for merchandising on the retail floor and for assisting the Store Manager in meeting store objectives through the utilization of selling techniques and the responsible handling of cashiering functions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Communicate effectively with fellow workers, staff and customers
  • Learn, interpret and implement policies relating to the store operation and merchandising
  • Ability to manage multiple work tasks
  • Knowledge of basic cashiering and sales practices
  • Ability to accurately count cash and change

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Processing

  • Separates goods into three categories: merchandise for the retail floor, items that will go to ARC, and items that will be taken to the landfill
  • Assesses all merchandise for the retail store for cleanliness and/or damage
  • If assigned, cleans or repairs merchandise per the merchandising strategy
  • Marks and tickets all merchandise according to retail pricing strategy in the sorting area
  • Hangs good useable clothing
  • Moves merchandise to the retail floor on a timely basis
  • Keeps work area neat and clean at all times

Cashiering

  • Ensures accurate handling of voucher, cash, check and charge transactions and accurate documentation of all appropriate paperwork
  • Ensures that all credit card information is secure at all times
  • Provides a sincere, warm, friendly and helpful atmosphere in filling the needs of the customer
  • Ensures the telephone is answered in an efficient and courteous manner, offering assistance to the caller as needed, including assistance in locating specified merchandise in another SVdP store
  • Maintains a clean and litter-free check out area and assists other store personnel in the general upkeep of the store
  • Assists the Store Manager/Assistant Manager/Supervisor in the pricing, stocking and displaying of merchandise

General

  • Ensures that all Safety procedures of SVdP are being observed
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Processing Supervisor or Store Manager/Assistant Manager/Supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned
