Job description

Description Instructors - Dance & Gymnastics The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as instructors in Dance & Gymnastics. If you are excited about recreation and ready to share your expertise with the community, we would love to hear from you. Our instructors engage with a diverse community, offering classes for all ages-from preschoolers to seniors.

Classes are conducted both indoors and outdoors, and we are dedicated to creating a welcoming and safe environment for all participants. Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and instruct recreational programs, or classes based on your expertise. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for participants of all ages and skill levels.

Develop and implement engaging curriculum and activities to meet program goals. Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during classes or programs. Provide guidance, feedback, and support to participants to enhance their learning experience.

Essential Job Functions: Set up, organize and monitor play; always ensure child safety. Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse participants. Report all incidents/accidents to office staff, immediately, and complete necessary forms.

Turn off all equipment, i.e. lights, stereo, heating and air conditioning, etc. and properly secure the room at the end of work shift

Greet the public; provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions and other general information over the phone and in person. Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers and the general public.

Respect diversity in the workplace. Perform first aid. Attend staff meetings, as required.

Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Current CPR/First Aid certification OR ability to obtain upon hire Relevant experience and expertise in the subject matter you wish to instruct. Passion for creating a positive and enjoyable learning experience.

Ability to work with minimal supervision. Maintain a neat, professional appearance. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both verbally and in written form.

Schedule: Part-time with flexible hours based on program needs. Staff schedules can range between 5 to 20 hours per week, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM throughout the week, evenings and weekends. Part-time employees have variable schedules and may work less than 1,560 hours per year.

Positions: Instructor I: No teaching experience required, must love working with people of all ages and abilities; be able to work inside and outside; and be at least 16 years of age. The hiring range for this position is $19.78 to $22.30, based on experience and internal equity. The full hourly range for this job classification is $19.78 to $22.30

Staff may be eligible for a merit increase at the end of September. Instructor II: Must have at least 1-year of experience in leading and instructing general classes and be at least 16 years of age. The hiring range for this position is $21.81 to $24.59, based on experience and internal equity

Classification Status: THPRD is hiring for multiple roles with hours varying based on program needs. Part-Time Variable (PT): Employees generally work fewer than 20 hours per week and no more than 1,560 hours annually.
