Job description

Overview

The KC-130J Aircraft Mechanic III will troubleshoot and/or repair malfunctions in the aircraft airframes and power plant systems and all other supporting aircraft systems that require general aviation mechanical skills and knowledge.  Perform assigned maintenance to specified KC-130J standards, to include performing operational testing procedures and required functional tests in support of the KC-130J maintenance manual series.  Performance abilities include maintenance and serviceability procedures for subsystem components, to include landing gear, flight control, hydraulics, engine, and propeller, component removal, inspection, and reinstallation.  In the course of assigned duties will apply a thorough knowledge of airframes and power plants engineering principles, techniques, and methods in the maintainability of existing equipment and systems.  Possess competent abilities in the use and application of hand tools, power tools, and associated precision measuring equipment used in support of system testing, evaluation, and operation. Possess the ability to read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, diagrams, schematics, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Major Job Activities

Description:

 

·       Apply and provide a thorough working knowledge of airframes and power plant systems to include aircraft modification procedures and experience with specific airframe, hydraulic, engine, and propeller systems, systems integration, system/component failure analysis, inspection, repair, and testing of airframes and power plant systems through engineering principles, techniques, and methods in the maintainability of existing KC-130J equipment and systems.

·       Performance abilities include performance of maintenance and servicing related aircraft components, to include landing gear, flight control, hydraulics, engine, and propeller, component removal, inspection, and reinstallation and incorporates applicable technical directives and bulletins. 

·       Troubleshoots and/or repairs malfunctions in the aircraft airframes and power plants systems and all other supporting aircraft systems that require general aviation mechanical skills and knowledge, performing assigned maintenance in compliance with established directives and specified KC-130J MRC/MIMs, to include performing calibration procedures and required functional tests.

·       Possess competent abilities in the use and application of hand tools, power tools, and associated precision measuring equipment used in support of system testing, evaluation, and operation, to include complying with established local tool control programs.

·       Read, interpret, and apply manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, diagrams, schematics, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components

·       Use illustrated parts breakdowns (IPB)s to determine material requirements, research associated part numbers, and order parts to complete maintenance actions.

·       Performs periodic special, hourly, conditional, and phase maintenance/isochronal inspections as required by Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIM)s, Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRC)s, manufacturer’s specifications, and all applicable directives, orders, and instructions as directed through Maintenance Control.

·       Interpret MIMs and all associated maintenance publications, orders, and directives to perform maintenance and use processes to document such maintenance actions, ensuring the accurate entry of data into the locally used computer database system.

·       Performs applicable “O” and “I” level maintenance functions in support of In-Flight Refueling Systems and rebuild shop and Aircraft Tire & Wheel rebuilding.

·       Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions, to include cross-training in all required essential technical specialties, to facilitate the removal, inspection, repair/replacement, installation, and test procedures of aircraft component parts, survival equipment, pneumatic systems, environmental control systems, fuel systems, avionics systems, and all associated airframes and power plants equipment systems.

·       Inspect, control, and prevent corrosion of aircraft metals and system components using established and approved procedures.

·       Checkout and operate all necessary support equipment for flight line maintenance of established maintenance procedures/

·       When necessary, perform other duties and supervisory functions, critical to the function of the program and to assure compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

Graduation from a standard four (4) year high school or equivalent (GED)

Material & Equipment Directly Used

Must have a working knowledge of and be proficient with (input and extract data) of computers, aircraft data debriefing and diagnostic software (DTADS), and maintenance information systems.

Working Environment

Environmental conditions are diverse and could range anywhere from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to an environment where inclement weather may subject individuals to severe changes in temperature, less than adequate lighting, dust and wind.  On occasion individuals may be required to work in areas where high noise hazards will prevail, and hearing protection is required. 

Physical Activities

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Employees are frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and climb on top of aircraft and maintenance platforms.  Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

·       High School Diploma

·       Must be able to obtain/maintain the following required certifications/qualifications:

- Aviation Gas Free Engineering (AVGFE) certification

- Hydraulic Contamination certification

-“I” Level & “O” Level Tire & Wheel certification

- Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) run qualification

- Applicable Support Equipment licensing

- Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) qualification

- Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) qualification

- Corrosion Prevention and Control and Aircraft Paint qualification

- Confined Space Entry certification

·       - Aviation Gas Free Engineering (AVGFE) certification

Experience:

·       Four years’ maintenance experience with C-130 Airframes/Power Plants Systems preferred.

·       Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) 4790.2 or equivalent experience with Air Force Instruction 21-101 preferred.

·       Must have a working knowledge of first aid procedures to be used in an emergency.

·       Must have a strong knowledge base of aviation maintenance programs, processes, and procedures (example:  Safety, Tool Control, HAZMAT, inspection programs, administrative requirements, support equipment, calibration/torque programs & procedures).

Specific Requirements:

·       Must be United States (U.S.) citizen, be able to read, write, and understand the English language

·       Must be able to obtain a United States Passport. If you currently possess a United States Passport it must have at least 24 months of time remaining before expiration.

·       Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License.

·       Must be willing to follow Kuwait Labor Law policies and able to adhere to and comply with all Kuwaiti Labor and Immigration requirements.

·       Must be willing to administrate, maintain, and manage maintenance programs (ex. Tool Control, HAZMAT, FOD, MetCal, etc…) as required by local policies.

·       Must be willing and able to comply with all contractual Performance Work Statement (PWS) Requirements to include but not limited to:  The performance of “I” Level maintenance functions in support of In-Flight Refueling Reel/system maintenance, NLG & MLG Tire re-building, Battery maintenance support, and Oxygen Regulator testing/repair.

·       Must be willing and able to deploy off-site as required to support Kuwait Air Force operations.

·       Must be willing to work flexible hours, to include day shift, night shift or weekend duty and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team as required.

·       Must have the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and follow instructions when directed on assigned tasks.

·       Must have skills and aptitude to cross train and/or support other maintenance technicians in completing assigned maintenance actions, to include but not limited to:  The performance and completion of daily inspections (including the ability to inspect/sign off on all associated aircraft maintenance/technician specialties), marshalling/recovering aircraft, fueling, towing, mooring, and conducting post flight procedures to ensure aircraft are properly secured upon completion of maintenance.

·       As a Subject Matter Expert, must be willing to perform in-depth research, troubleshoot, and perform “O” and “I” level maintenance functions on all applicable aircraft systems and components necessary to return aircraft to a Full Mission Capable status; this includes determining material requirements, researching part numbers, ordering, tracking, and receiving materials as required to facilitate aircraft inspections/repairs.

·       Must be able to communicate directly with the customer, pilots, air crew members, management, and maintenance personnel to gather and relay pertinent data/information necessary to ensure aircraft depart timely and launches are not delayed.

·       Must have an in-depth knowledge of aircraft technical orders/job guides/publications—read, interpret, follow and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publications.

·       Must have an in-depth knowledge (aircraft/vehicle movement and safety/hazards) of flight line operations.

·       Must be able to overcome cultural differences and to think outside the box, innovate, and provide solutions to the many complex problems and obstacles associated with international contracting and desert climate operations.

·       Must perform as a team member, contributing to the success of the C-130J maintenance department.

·       Must be dependable and timely in managing assigned tasks, perform consistent quality maintenance.

·       Must have a proven ability to work independently with minimal direction.
