Job description

JOB SUMMARY: As an Abbey Resort associate, you will have the opportunity to be part of an incredible team at an all service resort situated on the beautiful shores of Geneva Lake. We aim to hire individuals who are ready and committed to exceed the expectation of every guest by genuinely creating lasting memories, maintaining a positive attitude and by providing outstanding service every time.
BASIC FUNCTION: The Activities Manager is responsible for the smooth operation of the Activities areas, assuring the highest standards of service are met. The Activities Manager effectively manages all operational aspects of the Activities Department, including adequate staffing levels, completing financial management duties including budgeting, forecasting, and payroll and scheduling, as well as product inventory and ordering. The Activities Manager is responsible for overseeing Activities Attendants, ensuring proper training and standards met.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Prior recreational and/or hospitality experience preferred
  • Two years college education preferred.
  • Three years' experience in a major resort or parks & recreation department preferred
  • One year supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of pool operations, bikes, children's activities programs, ice rinks, corporate team building and event planning.
  • First Aid Certification preferred
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • High school/GED or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to write, speak, and read English
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Must be able to respond to guest requests quickly and efficiently
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Full operational responsibility of daily operations of Activities Department/Recreation areas
  • Oversee marketing and planning of all recreation facilities and services.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, training, coaching and counseling of all activities staff.
  • Supervise the performance, attendance, attitudes, appearance and conduct of activities staff.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are maintained and adhered to by the staff.
  • Plan, prepare, lead, and conduct activities for children and adults
  • Oversees the operation of swimming pools (indoor & outdoor), movie theater, arcade, and other hotel areas utilized for recreational activities
  • Maintain an active presence around the recreational areas, ensuring cleanliness and guest satisfaction
  • Supervise Activities Attendants while conducting activities, work as pool attendants, and supervise other recreational areas
  • Able to instruct guests on resort activities and facility locations
  • Facilitate activities for convention groups when assigned
  • Take reservations for activities
  • Communicate with all other departments as it pertains to the functions of the activities department
  • Ensure proper posting of activities and special event information
  • Responsible for department bank.
  • Monitor the success of the activities programs.
  • Make necessary adjustments to maintain superior quality, fun-filled, and original programs for guests and groups
  • Ensure that all activities infrastructure/equipment is in clean, safe, and working order
  • Perform exceptional communication skills throughout all functions of the job, i.e. guests, all resort associates
  • Make guest request top priority, within hotel policy and safety standards
  • Oversee, troubleshoot and implement solutions regarding games and activities conducted in the Activities areas, and assist guests as needed

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Operation of office equipment
  • Performing administrative tasks, such as answering phones/emails and completing paperwork
  • Attends appropriate hotel meetings and training sessions
  • Required to perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
  • Scheduled hours may vary on business needs and may or may not include holidays, weekends, various shifts, increased or reduced hours

ENVIRONMENT: Indoor, well-lit, carpeted office environment. Indoor pool facility, humidity and tile surfaces. Outdoor pool areas, weather permitting, concrete walking surfaces. Outdoor variable spaces including paved sidewalks, grass patches, covered & uncovered spaces.
