What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Thai accountant?

To thrive as a Thai Accountant, you need a solid understanding of Thai accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting, typically supported by a degree in accounting or finance and CPA certification. These skills ensure accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with stakeholders in the Thai business environment.

What is Thai accounting?

Thai accounting refers to the system of accounting practices, principles, and regulations specific to Thailand. It involves preparing and maintaining financial records in accordance with Thai Financial Reporting Standards (TFRS), and ensuring compliance with local tax laws and government regulations. Thai accounting professionals manage bookkeeping, tax filings, audits, and financial reporting for businesses operating in Thailand. They play a crucial role in helping companies stay compliant and make informed financial decisions.

What are some common challenges faced by accountants working in Thai businesses, and how can they be addressed?

Accountants in Thai businesses often encounter challenges such as navigating complex tax regulations, staying updated with frequent changes in local accounting standards, and ensuring compliance with both Thai and international financial reporting requirements. Additionally, language barriers and cultural nuances may present difficulties in multinational environments. To address these challenges, it is helpful to pursue regular professional training, actively communicate with regulatory authorities, and leverage accounting software tailored for the Thai market. Engaging in peer networking and joining professional associations can also provide valuable support and resources.

  • Internal Controls (SOX): Design and maintain a robust control environment (COSO framework) for operational accounting, ensuring all activities are audit-ready for SEC compliance.

Team Management & Collaboration

  • Team Development: Lead and mentor a diverse accounting operations team, identifying skill gaps and providing professional development opportunities.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Group Controllers, FP&A, Legal, and IT to ensure financial data integrity and support strategic decision-making.

  • Working with Key Stakeholders: Establish and maintain strong relationships with executive leadership, Finance, and business partners to align operational goals, communicate key performance indicators, and influence strategic decisions.

  • Customer Obsession: Drive functional teams to operate with a strong focus on satisfying the needs of all internal and external customers.

What You Bring To The Table

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a complex, multi-entity organization. Demonstrated ability to improve and mature operations through standardization and leverage of technology. Direct experience with complex supply chain environments preferred.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA highly preferred.

  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance.

  • Acquisition Experience: Proven track record of successfully integrating accounting operations following material acquisitions.

  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions, including conducting cost-benefit analysis and prioritizing initiatives to drive operational efficiency and financial performance.

As a matter of company policy, Wonder does not sponsor applicants for employment visa status for this role.

Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome-and encouraged-to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.

#LI-Hybrid

New York: $247,000 - $271,500 per year.
