Position Overview
GD Resources LLC is seeking a highly qualified Board Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist to provide onsite Radiation Oncology support services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at the Northport VA Medical Center in Northport, New York.
The selected candidate will support the Radiation Oncology Service by ensuring the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy while maintaining compliance with the standards established by the National Radiation Oncology Program (NROP), American College of Radiology (ACR), American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), and The Joint Commission (TJC).
This position supports a nationally accredited Radiation Oncology program and requires extensive experience with modern radiation therapy equipment, treatment planning systems, quality assurance, and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
The Therapeutic Medical Physicist shall:
- Provide comprehensive medical physics support for Radiation Oncology services.
- Perform radiation treatment planning in collaboration with Radiation Oncologists.
- Develop, review, optimize, and verify radiation treatment plans.
- Perform independent monitor unit (MU) calculations and treatment verification.
- Conduct weekly and final chart reviews for all radiation therapy patients.
- Perform quality assurance testing on all radiation therapy equipment.
- Ensure compliance with AAPM TG-53, TG-66, TG-142, and other applicable standards.
- Calibrate and verify radiation-producing equipment.
- Perform annual calibration analysis and third-party TLD measurements.
- Support Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Cone Beam CT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, SRT, HDR, and LDR procedures.
- Participate in weekly multidisciplinary peer review conferences.
- Assist with simulation procedures and complex patient setups.
- Provide radiation safety oversight for patients and staff.
- Monitor and validate treatment planning system software and updates.
- Maintain quality management programs for radiation therapy equipment.
- Troubleshoot radiation oncology equipment and computerized treatment planning systems.
- Support network connectivity and computer administration for radiation oncology systems.
- Maintain documentation of equipment calibration, QA activities, and treatment planning records.
- Ensure accurate documentation within the VA Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
- Participate in the implementation of new technologies and treatment procedures.
- Assist in training and mentoring radiation oncology staff and residents.
- Serve as a technical consultant to Radiation Oncology leadership.
- Maintain compliance with all VA regulations, accreditation standards, and facility policies.
Candidates must possess:
- Master's Degree or PhD in Medical Physics or related discipline.
- Board Certification in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
- Current licensure as a Professional Medical Physicist where required by state law.
- Minimum two (2) years of continuous Therapeutic Medical Physicist experience within the last three (3) years.
- Experience in an ACR-accredited Radiation Oncology program.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Candidates must demonstrate experience with:
- Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance procedures.
- Varian Linear Accelerators (IX and Trilogy).
- BrainLAB accessories.
- Eclipse Treatment Planning System.
- ARIA Record & Verify System.
- IMRT and VMAT treatment planning.
- Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS).
- Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT).
- Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).
- Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).
- Cone Beam CT.
- Siemens Somatom CT Simulator or equivalent.
- MapCheck I/II or equivalent IMRT QA systems.
- Treatment planning software validation.
- Radiation dosimetry.
- Radiation safety.
- Quality Management Programs.
- Computerized treatment planning systems.
- Calibration and commissioning of radiation therapy equipment.
- Computer networking for Radiation Oncology systems.
Prior to providing services, candidates must successfully complete:
- VA Credentialing and Privileging.

- Normal clinic hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Flexible scheduling may include:

Replacement coverage must be available within two (2) hours if scheduled personnel are unavailable.
