General Summary

The School of Technology & Professional Services Management invites applications for a
Graduate Assistant (GA) to support the Fashion Marketing Innovation Program. This position provides instructional, laboratory, and program support while offering valuable professional experience in higher education and the fashion industry. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and students in apparel construction, textiles, product development, and fashion merchandising. The position is 50% for Fall 2026.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist faculty with undergraduate courses in fashion design, sewing and construction, textiles,
product development, and merchandising.
- Provide instruction and guidance to students during laboratory sessions, including garment
construction techniques and the proper use of sewing equipment.
- Support product development activities including specification sheets, quality evaluation, garment
analysis, and apparel production processes.
- Assist with textile identification, fabric performance testing, and materials evaluation.
- Support merchandising projects including visual merchandising, trend forecasting, retail analysis, and consumer research.
- Prepare laboratories for instruction and maintain sewing machines, equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Support student recruitment events, open houses, portfolio shows, and outreach activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Admission to or enrollment in an EMU graduate program.
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Apparel Product Development,
Textiles, or related field.
- Knowledge of sewing, apparel construction, textiles, product development, and merchandising.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in fashion retail, apparel manufacturing, product development, or textile testing.
- Experience with sewing equipment and fashion technology terminology.
- Prior teaching, tutoring, or laboratory assistant experience is a plus.
Appointment
10 hours per week during the academic semester. Compensation in accordance with EMU
Graduate Assistant policies.
