Department: Rebecca Crown Library
Reports to: User Experience Librarian
Hours needed per week: 8-16

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The WeatherTech Innovation Lab is looking for passionate, creative, and curious students to staff the library's maker space. Do you enjoy crafts? Have you ever been interested in learning about 3D printing? Are you the type of person who prefers a "D.I.Y." approach? If you are, then this may be the job for you!
The WeatherTech Innovation Lab serves as both a space for students to experiment and explore new technologies, but also a center for event programming and student group meetings. Lab Assistants are expected to help patrons familiarize themselves with lab equipment and lend a hand on projects when needed. The Lab regularly hosts events throughout each Semester to highlight Lab equipment and provide various experiences to further enrich campus life. In this position, you will be expected to help with the development, scheduling, and programming of these events. Lab Assistants will also be expected to maintain the space and equipment, including cleaning up after events or equipment usage, as well as maintaining an inventory of lab supplies.
JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports the space and programming needs of the WeatherTech Innovation Lab.
  • Provides excellent service, which develops and fosters learning communities, including supporting peer-to-peer learning opportunities.
  • Develops and extends connections between the Library and University faculty, researchers, and students engaging in emerging technologies.
  • Lab Technology: Oversee the Innovation Lab's various pieces of equipment, including 3D printing services, sewing/embroidery machines, precision cutter, and more. This entails developing and implementing policies and procedures, and training staff/students on use.
  • Identifies trends in research practices and technologies and recommends strategies for aligning library services accordingly.
  • Assist the Instruction & UX Teams in collaborating with colleagues' campus-wide to align library programming with the curricular needs of the academic programs and provide framework for learning objects, research guides, tutorials, and other tools as needed.
  • Provides training, guides or instructional materials on software and/or hardware for students and/or staff.
  • Participate in the assessment or enhancement of existing technology and new technology related to services deployed.
  • Advise and assist in efforts to use emerging technologies to build relationships with users and increase awareness of Library resources and services in the campus community.
  • Perform other duties as requested, delegated or assigned
