Description

As the Drug Room Operator at Shawmut, you will be an expert in the precise preparation and handling of dyes and chemicals that drive our textile dyeing operations. In this vital role, you will ensure that every batch formulation meets production specifications with accuracy and consistency. You will collaborate closely with dyeing, laboratory, and production teams to maintain seamless communication and workflow across departments. Thriving in a fast-paced textile environment, you will play a key role in supporting color quality, process efficiency, and on-time production. Your attention to detail, technical skills, and commitment to safety will be essential in upholding Shawmut's reputation for excellence in textile manufacturing.


Responsibilities

  • Accurately weigh and prepare dyes and chemicals as per the batch recipe or shade card.
  • Issue prepared materials to dyeing machines in a timely and organized manner.
  • Maintain detailed logs of dye and chemical usage, batch records, and stock levels.
  • Monitor stock levels of dyes and chemicals; report shortages or discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Ensure correct identification, labeling, and storage of materials to prevent contamination or color variation.
  • Operate and maintain mixing, weighing, and dispensing equipment; ensure calibration and cleanliness.
  • Follow all plant safety protocols, including use of PPE and proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Work closely with dyeing, laboratory, and production teams to ensure smooth workflow and minimize delays.
  • Keep the drug room clean, organized, and free from spills or obstructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a textile dyeing unit, preferably in drug room operations.
  • Knowledge of dyes and chemicals used in textile processing.
  • Ability to read and interpret batch recipes and dyeing instructions.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and stock management.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in weighing and recording.
  • Understanding of workplace safety and chemical handling procedures.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift materials up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Comfortable working in a dyeing/chemical environment with appropriate protective gear.
  • Indoor drug room and dyeing area, exposure to dyes, heat, humidity, and noise as typical in textile processing facilities.
