What is a textile designer?

As a textile designer, you create designs for different types of fabrics, including knit, woven, and printed, for a particular industry, such as fashion or furnishings. Your job duties include using computer design software to produce textile designs, meeting with suppliers and manufacturers of textile materials, and keeping up with industry trends. Producing quality textile designs for your employer and maintaining your own art and design portfolio are two of your main responsibilities.

What does a textile designer do?

A textile designer creates patterns and designs for fabrics used in clothing, home furnishings, and other products. Their work involves developing original designs, choosing colors and materials, and often working with digital tools or traditional methods like sketching and weaving. Textile designers collaborate with manufacturers to ensure their designs can be produced efficiently and meet quality standards. They also stay updated on trends to create appealing and marketable designs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a textile designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Textile Designer, you need a strong background in design principles, color theory, and textile fabrication, often supported by a degree in textile or fashion design. Proficiency in CAD software like Adobe Illustrator or specialized textile design programs, as well as familiarity with printing and weaving technologies, is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help designers translate ideas into market-ready products and collaborate with clients or manufacturers. These skills ensure innovative, high-quality textile designs that meet both aesthetic and functional requirements in a competitive industry.

How do textile designers typically collaborate with other departments during the product development process?

Textile Designers often work closely with product development, merchandising, and production teams to ensure their designs align with market trends and manufacturing capabilities. Regular meetings and feedback sessions are common, allowing designers to adjust patterns, colorways, and materials based on input from these departments. This collaboration ensures that the final textile products are both aesthetically appealing and feasible to produce at scale. Effective communication and adaptability are key for Textile Designers to succeed in this cross-functional environment.

EVEREVE inspires women to move forward in their fashion so that they feel fully alive. By offering modern, curated trends from 150+ brands, including our own best-selling line—along with warm, genuine advice—we deliver a styling experience made personal. Our 110+ stores, booming e-commerce business, and fast-growing subscription box service, Trendsend, reach over two million customers every year.

__________________________________________________________________________________

EVEREVE is seeking a highly creative Senior Designer - Knit Tops with an extensive background in women's ready-to-wear clothing and cut-and-sew knits, with a high taste level and market instincts to set direction for the category. Equally central to this role is designing top-tier knit tops with a complete outfit mindset, knowing our customer looks to EVEREVE for fully styled, head-to-toe looks.

As a senior member of a lean, entrepreneurial design team, this role brings artistic vision, a sharp trend and color point of view, and customer-focused design solutions to life — setting creative direction for the category while staying hands-on through execution, equally focused on defining a seasonal color story as on approving a lab dip. Success in this role also requires strong organizational skills — managing multiple seasons at once while maintaining meticulous attention to detail, deadlines, and follow-through. The role works in close partnership with our Senior Director of Design, Technical Designers, Sourcing/Production, and Buying.

Location: Edina, MN (No remote option)

Reports to: Senior Director of Design, Development & Sourcing

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Creative Vision & Point of View:

• Research, shop and interpret domestic and global market, runway, and cultural trends to identify emerging silhouettes, techniques, and whitespace ahead of competitors.

• Define a strong, distinct point of view for the knit tops category — one that differentiates EVEREVE and gives buyers and merchants a clear creative direction to build around.

• Establish seasonal color direction with conviction, balancing trend relevance, item-level viability, and full-assortment cohesion.

• Design through the lens of a complete outfit — proportion, layering, and head-to-toe versatility — so knit tops pair seamlessly with bottoms and the third-piece assortment.

• Bring the customer's full lifestyle and wardrobe needs into every design decision, using customer and styling feedback along with sell-through data to sharpen point of view season over season.

• Drive fabric, wash, and trim innovation in partnership with Sourcing and vendors, pushing for newness that's still commercially grounded.

• Co-create seasonal trend stories with the Senior Director of Design (4X/year) — themes, color, print/pattern, key items, and fabrication — and translate that direction into a clear, brand-right design POV.

Hands-On Execution & Collaboration:

• Work directly on design deliverables — Illustrator CADs, concept and fabric boards, flat sketches, presentation materials — with the same level of craft and attention expected across the team.

• Partner weekly with Buyers on strategy, sales performance, and assortment planning.

• Communicate directly with vendors on fabric, style, and pattern direction, and manage component, fabric, wash, and print approvals with clear, decisive feedback.

• Partner with Technical Design on fit intent and tech packs, joining bi-weekly fit sessions to protect the integrity of the design vision through to production.

• Collaborate with Textile Designer to identify print & pattern needs, clearly communicate scale, recolor and substitution feedback

• Maintain active, daily communication across Design, Buying, Technical Design, Sourcing/Production, and global vendors to keep product moving from concept to floor.

Organization & Process:

• Keep design samples, development records, vendor submits, and seasonal CAD boards organized and accessible.

• Manage multiple seasons at once, hitting deadlines and adherent to seasonal calendars, and flag process improvements as the business scales.

Requirements:

Degree: 4-year degree in Apparel Design.

Experience: 10+ years of professional apparel design experience, centered in Ready-to-Wear (RTW), with deep expertise in cut-and-sew knits and product development.

Creative Point of View: Proven track record of shaping seasonal direction and color stories, sharp market instincts, and a strong, distinct taste level that translates into commercially successful product.

Entrepreneurial, Hands-On Mindset: Comfortable operating at both a strategic and highly detailed level — this is a streamlined team where vision and execution are one job, not two.

Collaboration Skills: Strong relationship-builder, confident leading conversations with buyers, technical design, and vendors, and driving decisions rather than just executing them.

Technical & Creative Skills:

• Strong sketching and vector CAD skills; proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, XD), Outlook, Google Suite, Microsoft Office.

• Wash, finish, and fabric development experience in RTW and cut-and-sew knits.

• Solid understanding of garment construction, specs, measurements, and patternmaking principles.

• Strong taste level, proven creative ideation, sharp color vision and solid market knowledge base to work from.

• Clear, confident presentation and strategic thinking skills.

Benefits:

  • Self-Managed PTO: Time off is yours to plan and use as you need it
  • Affordable Health Insurance: 80% employer-paid premiums for medical and dental for team members; 50% covered for eligible partners, spouses and dependents
  • Parental Leave: Generous paid leave benefits for maternity, paternity and adoption to enjoy time with your growing family
  • Flex Spending Accounts: Benefit from pre-tax savings for out-of-pocket healthcare or dependent/daycare costs
  • Additional Insurance: Company paid life insurance and short-term disability
  • 401k +5% Match:?Contribute to your financial future and receive a 5% company match with immediate vesting upon enrollment
  • Fashion Discount: Enjoy a 30% discount on all merchandise purchased in-store or online, excluding Trendsend. EVEREVE team members are also eligible for a 30% discount online and in-store at Jaxen Grey.
  • Flexible Work Model: Offers work from home flexibility with 4-day in-office presence to build connection with team members
  • Culture of Purpose: Experience a culture of purpose and growth rooted in our HEART Values – Humility, Empathy, Authenticity, Relationship and Tenacity
