Job description

The construction coordinator, electric distribution is responsible for job site construction coordination including safety, material/equipment coordination (staging and delivery), work packet coordination, customer interaction and other construction activities. Employee is responsible for insuring quality of construction and correct charging of materials, labor and equipment.MidAmerican Energy Company, a Midwest utility, provides regulated electric and natural gas service to more than 1.6 million customers in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Associate's degree in a technical or related field. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.) 

Three years of related experience adhering to contractual requirements, environmental regulations and policies, construction coordination. 

Effective verbal and written communications skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Possess and demonstrate effective leadership skills. Possess computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Must demonstrate working knowledge of electric, gas and construction standards, design standards, work methods, equipment, electric equipment maintenance and materials. Demonstrated ability to read and understand utility maps, plan and profiles and drawings. Understand how to interpret right of way easements and agency permits. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple task and projects concurrently. 

This position is subject to Department of Transportation mandated drug testing, including but not limited to random drug testing.

Manage contractors who perform construction activities. Work with limited supervision within established policies, procedures and standards. 

Communicate company policies, programs, standards and procedures. Ensures adherence to work and project schedules. Monitors quality of work performed. Responsible for adherence to construction related standards, during the construction process, for both contract and company crews. Assists quality group review of project at completion of construction as needed. 

Demonstrates and promotes leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe work behaviors, which may lead to accidents. Also assists in the investigation of accidents. 

Responsible for ensuring effective coordination among processes and stakeholders when working with designated project and construction managers, contractors and customers. Coordinate and work with the storeroom to ensure material availability. Provide drawings and specifications to Contractors and crews as required. Remove barriers for crews while performing work activities. Provide direction to employees and contract crews assigned to the associated construction projects. 

Understands and applies multiple labor contracts. Understands and applies contractor general agreements and pricing. Coordinate material returns and project closure activities. Ensures "as constructed" drawings are appropriately documented and returned to engineering. Interact with customers on work performed by construction crews. 

This position may require overnight travel as workload dictates. Other related duties as assigned.
