Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Accessible Services, the PT Student Success Assistant will participate in the daily operations of the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS), which is the designated office on OU's campus that fosters an environment where all students have equal access to the University's activities, programs, and services. The position requires day work on Tuesday (9:00am โ€“ 5 pm), Wednesday (9:00am - 5:00pm), and Thursday (9:00am - 5:00pm). However, flexibility is required to meet the needs of the students and office operations.

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the development and implementation of accessibility services.
  • Assist with the OAS workshops presented to faculty.
  • Occasional assistance with the Testing Center, as needed (reading and scribing for quizzes, tests, and exams.)
  • Provide guidance for students on how to initiate and maintain accessibility services by completing applications, providing supporting documentation, scheduling intakes, requesting accommodations, scheduling testing accommodations, and communicating with faculty.)
  • Assist in securing note-takers by communicating with faculty.
  • Reserving quiet spaces/rooms in the library for private student testing as needed
  • Assist in streamlining office workflow.
  • Developing and emailing testing accommodation requests to faculty.
  • Demonstrate excellent people skills and comfort working with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds in an accepting, open, and non-judgmental way.
  • Packaging tests and securing completed tests for faculty to pick up.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Receiving and transferring calls and taking messages.
  • Assist the Office of Student Success as needed
  • Approving timecards for student workers
  • Complete student success advisor and faculty mentor adjustments as major changes take place.
  • Support admissions in recruiting-related efforts
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • One to 2 years of experience providing services to diverse students.
  • Minimum of an associate's degree
  • Basic knowledge/experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, including knowledge of confidentiality guidelines (FERPA, HIPAA)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated good customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, rules, and regulations of quizzes, tests, and exams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work in disability services.
  • Ability to act as an advocate for students with disabilities.
  • Support Admissions in recruitment-related efforts.
  • Knowledgeable of disability laws, regulations, and best practices (ADA, Section 504, and Rehabilitation Act of 1973)

Pay Rate

$17.50 - $18.00 per hour for 24 hours per week. This position is not benefits-eligible and not eligible for overtime.

About the Office of Accessibility Services: The Office of Accessibility Services-OAS serves an array of diverse students with documented disabilities. The office works with individual students to determine eligibility for reasonable academic, dining, housing, and temporary accommodations. The office provides follow-up, disability-related support on the development of accommodations and academic adjustments for the population. In addition, the office provides on-going consultation, advocacy, and problem-solving assistance to faculty and staff promoting innovative best practices and compliance addressing and removing accessibility related barriers.
