Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Senior Staff Systems Test Engineer for the Aerospace Vehicle Equipment Guidance Navigation & Controls (AVE-GN&C) team. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program.
What You Will Get To Do:
  • Develop customer contractual needs and requirements into test solutions that acknowledges technical schedule and cost constraints.
  • Develop and direct preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules.
  • Review and evaluate test requirements for completeness of test program.
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts, Element Test teams, System Test teams, and other stakeholders to identify test objectives, test requirements, and risks that require test to mitigate.
  • Supporting development of instrumentation requirements for Hardware in the Loop testing.
  • Identify test support requirements and coordinate with Design & Integration team for budget and personnel needs.
  • Overseeing test activities in support or requirement verification and validation.
  • Conduct daily briefing and approve test start for each test event.
  • Approve Break of Configuration on the test floor.
  • Conduct tabletop reviews and dry run test procedures with test team prior to execution.
  • Coordinate and conduct Technical and Safety Review Boards, and Test Readiness Reviews.
  • Support customer Test Plan Working Groups.
  • Prepare Test Planning Team charters. Coordinate with Quality organization for test support.
  • Review and approve major test amendments. Utilize excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
  • Working well in a team environment, collaborate with multiple engineering teams to define test objectives and requirements for test activities in a hardware in the loop lab.

This position has a 9/80 standard work schedule. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 10 Years with PhD.
  • U.S. citizen eligible for a Secret (or higher) security clearance and able to obtain any program-specific clearance required
  • 5+ years of experience leading large, cross-functional missile/launch-vehicle programs with a minimum of 3 year with system or subsystem test and integration in engineering laboratory environment
  • 5+ years of experience driving program execution through various phases of the acquisition lifecycle (System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, or flight-test execution) with experience as a technical-approval authority for drawings, analyses, test plans, or other related work products
  • 5+ years of experience translating complex technical information into clear briefings for senior leadership, customer partners, and range authorities, enabling rapid and accurate decision-making
  • 5+ years of experience mentoring junior engineers and leading formal development programs

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Missile-system proficiency - Experience designing developing, testing, integrating, and/or analyzing missile systems and subsystems (propulsion, aerodynamics, flight-control, structures, and/or guidance-navigation-control)
  • Test-campaign leadership - Experience related to flight-test campaigns, including planning, execution and data capture, and post-test analysis
  • Process-improvement champion - Initiated and institutionalized process improvements that became organization-wide best-practice templates
  • Technical leadership experience, direction and mentoring to other technical employees in the application of scientific principles, tools and techniques to achieve practical end results
  • Background in aerospace systems; basic understanding of missile systems, GNC, warheads, and survivability
  • Knowledge of configuration management best practices
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and meet program commitments in a highly concurrent engineering environment
  • Ability to effectively maneuver through political situation and anticipate roadblocks
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with minimal direction
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Agile approaches and Model-Based Engineering (MBE)
  • Prior experience leading teams of 10+ members & scope valuation of 50M+
  • Demonstrated record of collaboration among multiple teams, disciplines, and suppliers
  • Familiarity with role of real-time simulators in HWIL usage

Primary Level Salary Range: $151,400.00 - $227,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
