Job description

Job Title: Test Engineer

Location: Hill AFB - Clearfield, UT - (O

Canvas is seeking a Test Engineer to join its Physical Security Test Team on-site at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. In this role, you will support the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) and the Sentinel Combined Test Force (CTF) in conducting developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) activities, focusing on weapon system physical security and facility protection.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to the Sentinel Combined Test Force (CTF) Lead Developmental Test & Evaluation Organization (LDTO) in developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) activities for Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) missile systems.
  • Support developmental test & evaluation oversight of Weapon System physical security system and protection activities to assess performance against stated program requirements.
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Integrated Test Teams (ITTs), Working Groups (WGs), and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Perform duties as Test Working Group Co-Chair as assigned.
  • Plan, schedule, and report all test activities for area of responsibility.
  • Witness designated testing and perform independent assessment and analysis of technical data and test results using knowledge of the requirements and traceable performance parameters.
  • Report, validate, prioritize, process, and monitor Deficiency Reports.
  • Write, review, and provide comment on applicable test plans/reports.
  • Perform analysis of test data and write assessment reports as applicable.
  • Serve as a test team participant in the development of overall plans such as the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), System Test Plan (STP), recommendation for Initial Operational Test & Evaluation (IOT&E) readiness, and other technical documents.
  • Support development of Participating Test Organization (PTO) agreements for the Physical Security team.
  • Coordinate/facilitate integration and communication between Sentinel CTF, Sentinel Program Office (SPO), and Prime Contractor.
  • Participate in all T&E phases outlined in the DoD Test and Evaluation guidebook and applicable documents (e.g. AFMAN, DAFI, etc).
  • Prepare and coordinate documents for Technical Review Board (TRB) and Safety Review Board (SRB) and present/brief as applicable.
  • Follow up on any actions during TRB/SRB's to ensure actions are documented and resolved prior to Test Readiness Review (TRR) and test execution.
  • Document the accomplishment of SRBs, overall risk assessment, and any associated actions.
  • Provide guidance, training, and monitor developmental progress of junior test engineers as assigned.
  • Work with the Director of Test Engineering and SPO Test Managers to ensure appropriate IPT and Prime Contractor Leads are included in project completion.
  • Provide support and advocate integrated approaches of Sentinel CTF efforts and support test activities for which existing guidelines may not be available or applicable.

Required knowledge, skills, and education:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related fieldand 3 years of experience in program/test management. Six years' experience can be substituted for a Bachelor's degree if waived by the government.
  • Personal and organizational interactions exhibit and foster cooperation and teamwork, enhance customer relations, and actively promote rapport with customers
  • Utilize resources effectively to accomplish mission, including ability to work effectively alone, unsupervised, or within a group.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while being able to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Focused adherence to safety and security requirements.
  • Experience in conflict resolution within multiple teams so that all parties benefit.
  • The ability to direct a group of people or organization.
  • The ability to analyze, prioritize, communicate, and minimize the amount of risk an initiative program or project may cause for the entire schedule.

Security Clearance:

  • Must hold a Secret DoD security clearance with ability to receive a Top Secret as required.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in working with AFNWC organizations, designated test organizations, and/or prime contractors.
  • Familiarity with test and evaluation planning and processes consistent with DoD acquisition directives and policies.

  • Familiarity with Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon systems and related subsystems/equipment, their projected use in the military, and methods of testing.
  • Experience in working on DoD test programs.

  • Experience working with Physical Security System (PSS) components, hardware, software, engineering and design.
  • Background in physical security systems designs and facility protection concepts.

Other Essential Job Functions:

  • Work location is on-site at Hill AFB.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 15%.
