What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Manufacturing Business Intelligence (Dataviz) team and lead the development and operation of our ClickHouse-based analytics infrastructure supporting global manufacturing data platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining large-scale ClickHouse clusters that power real-time and high-volume analytics across Tesla's production systems. You will work closely with DBAs, platform engineers, and cross-functional teams to build reliable, scalable, and high-performance data pipelines and services. This role involves not only data engineering but also database infrastructure ownership, including performance tuning, monitoring, and operational maintenance of ClickHouse servers. Your work will enable high-quality reporting, real-time operational insights, and advanced analytics that directly improve manufacturing eUiciency and product quality. Expect to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment where your contributions will directly support Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do
  • Design and maintain ClickHouse database infrastructure to support large-scale manufacturing analytics workloads
  • Manage ClickHouse cluster setup, configuration, scaling, and high availability architecture
  • Monitor database performance, server health, and system utilization to ensure reliability, stability, and optimal query performance
  • Perform regular server maintenance, upgrades, and performance tuning to maintain a stable production environment
  • Partner with DBA and infrastructure teams to request and provision compute, storage, and networking resources required for scaling ClickHouse clusters
  • Develop and maintain data ingestion pipelines and operators for processing manufacturing datasets into ClickHouse
  • Build and maintain workflow orchestration pipelines for ClickHouse jobs using Airflow or similar orchestration tools
  • Implement data quality validation, monitoring, and alerting frameworks to ensure reliability of analytics data
  • Optimize ClickHouse schemas, partitions, indexing strategies, and query performance for high-volume datasets
  • Develop internal tools and automation for cluster monitoring, query diagnostics, and operational troubleshooting

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years in data engineering or data platform engineering
  • Strong experience with ClickHouse architecture, administration, performance optimization, and deploying/managing distributed clusters
  • Deep expertise in SQL and analytical query optimization
  • Experience building data pipelines and ETL frameworks using Python or similar languages
  • Proficiency with workflow orchestration tools like Airflow, Prefect, or Luigi
  • Familiarity with database monitoring, performance diagnostics, and server maintenance
  • Hands-on work with large-scale operational data, including data modeling, partitioning, and columnar database design
  • Experience with containerization and distributed infrastructure (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, collaboration with DBAs/infrastructure teams, and passion for reliable, scalable data platforms

Expected Compensation $144,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
