Job description

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide advanced technical assistance to blasting teams and customers to include mine planning, blast modelling and design, surveying and mapping, post-blast analysis, blast optimization, and other blasting service needs.

  • Establish collaborative and respectful relationships with LLC/Regional blaster and technical team members with clear communication and alignment on blasting goals.

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by assuring uniform implementation of regulatory agency requirements and company policies and procedures.

  • Able to be present on customer sites on short notice throughout the LLC/Region, as required by our customers and the discretion of management.

  • Leverage understanding of blasting process to provide blast plans that are customized to the unique needs of each blast and customer.

  • Clearly communicate recommended and required processes, techniques, and tools to our blasting teams to facilitate the safe execution of blast plans.

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify safety and regulatory concerns and implement preventative measures to mitigate risk.

  • Participate in the investigation of accidents, blasting incidents, and product complaints to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions.

  • Be a licensed drone pilot (FAA UAV Part 701) and ensure required team members earn, and maintain, drone certification.

  • Able to execute advanced technical data collection and processing to support blasting and technical services needs in the field.

  • Willingness and ability to learn and apply new technologies, processes, and techniques to support the evolving technical needs of our blasting teams and customers.

  • Assist in the training, development, and certification of LLC/Region blasting and technical team members at direction of management team.

  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, applications, and product development and technical advancements.

  • Able to professionally interface with public, landowners, and interest groups concerning blasting-related regulations, industry standards or policies.

  • Able to perform as a Certified Blaster as temporary sprint capacity.

  • Able to support the efforts of our sales teams as a subject matter expert of the application and capabilities of our products, blasting, and technical services.

  • Willing and able to respond to urgent incidents by being present on-site at the discretion of the management team.

  • Willingness to support unique projects and assignments at the direction of management team.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Able to execute advanced technical data collection and processing to include drone imagery, 3D modelling, high accuracy GPS data collection, bore tracking, 2D profiling, Paradigm blast modelling, post-blast fragmentation analysis.

  • Willingness and ability to learn and apply the advanced modelling capabilities of Paradigm to meet the unique needs of LLC/Regional customer base.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to support the blast design, execution, and analysis of our blasting and technical services teams.

  • Demonstrates ability to present information in written and verbal format to widely diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrates an ability to work with supervisors, co-workers and subordinates toward the accomplishment of common goals.

  • Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of company products and equipment used in blasting applications and the willingness to continue learning.

  • Utilizes effective written and verbal communication techniques through in-person, digital, email, report writing, and presentations.

  • Possesses strong time management and prioritization skills to manage a dynamic and often-times reactive work schedule.

  • Has the ability to analyze complex problems, identify opportunities, and articulate recommendations.

  • Possesses an Austin Powder Company Blasting Certification or to be earned within 12 months of accepting the role.

Work Environment

This position requires working in the elements as well as the rough terrains of the job sites, and will be exposed to dust, noise, oils, greases, and other debris. Ability to walk, stand, sit, use hands to operate controls and work with tools, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. Travel may be up to 50% - 70% within the LLC/Region.

Education and Experience
  • A completed bachelor's degree preferably in engineering or 4+ years of relevant industry experience as a certified blaster.
