Job description

Systems Automation Engineer

Position Overview

Digital Broadcast, Inc. (DBI) develops broadcast automation and control systems used in live production environments.

We are seeking a technically strong Systems Automation Engineer to help improve the efficiency, scalability, and operational effectiveness of both our internal systems and customer-facing workflows.

This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, operational support, process improvement, and intelligent automation.

The ideal candidate is not simply someone familiar with AI tools. We are looking for someone who understands how operational systems work, identifies inefficiencies and repetitive workflows, and can implement practical automation solutions that improve reliability, reduce manual effort, and enhance knowledge sharing across the organization.

This role will work across engineering, deployments, support operations, documentation, and internal tooling to help DBI scale operationally without adding unnecessary complexity.

This is not a help desk role, and it is not a theoretical AI research position. Success in this role requires systems thinking, operational discipline, technical curiosity, and the ability to turn ideas into measurable improvements.

What You’ll Work On

·       Systems & Operational Engineering

o   Diagnose and resolve issues across software, networking, operating systems, and hardware control environments

o   Analyze logs, support issues, and operational workflows to identify recurring patterns and improvement opportunities

o   Assist with deployments, upgrades, integrations, and infrastructure reliability initiatives

o   Improve operational consistency through documentation, tooling, and process refinement

·       Automation & Process Improvement

o   Identify repetitive manual tasks and implement automation solutions

    • Improve internal workflows for engineering, deployments, support, and technical operations
    • Build tools and systems that improve efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline communication
    • Develop structured operational processes that improve scalability and knowledge transfer

·       AI & Intelligent Tooling

o   Evaluate and implement practical AI-assisted workflows where they provide measurable operational value

    • Improve internal knowledge systems, technical documentation accessibility, and troubleshooting workflows
    • Help integrate AI-assisted tooling into support operations, documentation, training, and diagnostics
    • Focus on operational outcomes and measurable improvements rather than experimentation for its own sake

·       Client & Field Operations

o   Support broadcast engineers and operational staff during deployments and troubleshooting

    • Travel to client facilities for installations and complex support scenarios
    • Assist with after-hours operational issues when necessary

What We Value

We are looking for engineers who:

·       Think in terms of systems, workflows, and operational impact

·       Focus on long-term process improvement rather than temporary fixes

·       Can identify inefficiencies and improve them methodically

·       Understand that automation should simplify operations, not create additional complexity

·       Communicate technical findings clearly and document their work thoroughly

·       Can balance innovation with operational reliability

Required Technical Foundation

Candidates should have working knowledge in several of the following areas:

·       TCP/IP networking fundamentals

·       Windows Server environments

·       Systems administration and operational troubleshooting

·       Automation scripting or workflow tooling

·       APIs, integrations, or operational tooling

·       Technical documentation and knowledge management systems

·       AI-assisted productivity or operational tooling

Additional expectations:

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to improve processes through structured thinking
  • Ability to evaluate ROI and operational impact of automation efforts
  • Comfortable learning new technologies independently
  • Willingness to work in-office in Gainesville, FL and travel as needed

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates will:

  • Naturally look for inefficiencies and bottlenecks
  • Be motivated by improving systems and workflows
  • Understand operational environments where uptime matters
  • Be comfortable working across both technical and operational teams
  • Have experience implementing practical automation, not just discussing it
  • Care about measurable outcomes, maintainability, and operational stability

Experience with AI tools alone is not sufficient for this role. We are specifically looking for candidates who can apply automation and intelligent tooling in ways that create meaningful operational improvements.

This role is focused on improving real operational systems and workflows.  Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • process improvement thinking
  • systems-level troubleshooting
  • operational judgment
  • automation experience
  • and the ability to create measurable efficiency gains
