Job description

Morehouse General Hospital Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant

Department: Rehabilitation Services

Reports To: Licensed Physical Therapist

Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Friday | 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Job Summary

Morehouse General Hospital is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and skilled Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join our growing Rehab Services team. Under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA will provide high-quality rehabilitative care with a primary focus on outpatient services, while also supporting acute and swing bed patients.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with a passion for patient care and a strong desire to make a meaningful impact in a small, close-knit hospital community.

Service Setting:

  • 90% Outpatient Rehabilitation
  • 10% Acute Care & Swing Bed

Primary Responsibilities

  • Administer treatments as outlined in the Physical Therapist’s evaluation and treatment plan
  • Assist patients in achieving their maximum functional potential within their physical capabilities
  • Treat a wide range of conditions, including orthopedic injuries, joint replacements, CVA, generalized weakness, and more
  • Apply various techniques to reduce pain, improve strength, mobility, and endurance
  • Instruct patients in proper exercise techniques and individualized home exercise programs
  • Accurately document patient progress and services in NetHealth (EHR software)
  • Collaborate effectively with therapists, physicians, case managers, techs, and the broader care team
  • Participate in department improvement initiatives and program development
  • Maintain timely and accurate billing and documentation
  • Assist Physical Therapists as needed in both inpatient and outpatient care settings
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment & Details

  • Patients scheduled every 45 minutes; average of 8–10 patients/day
  • Dress Code: Any color scrubs OR khakis with a collared shirt
  • COVID-19 Vaccine or approved religious exemption required
  • Close-knit team environment in a rural hospital setting

Education & Licensing:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
  • Current Louisiana PTA License (Temporary license accepted)
  • Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Skills & Abilities:

  • Flexibility to work across outpatient, acute, and swing bed areas within the hospital
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical setting

 Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a computer and complete documentation for extended periods
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers using gait belts, sliding boards, or with the help of another team member

 Safety Expectations

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and universal precautions
  • Practice proper body mechanics and ergonomics at all times
  • Report maintenance issues and unsafe conditions using the Environmental Services work order system
  • Participate in emergency drills and follow hospital emergency procedures
