Temporary Remote Product Manager information

What is a temporary remote product manager?

Temporary remote product managers are professionals hired on a short-term contract basis to oversee the development and management of products for a company, all while working remotely. They are responsible for setting product strategies, coordinating between teams, and ensuring successful product delivery, but their role is not permanent and often lasts for a specific project or period. This arrangement offers flexibility for both the employer and the product manager, allowing companies to tap into specialized expertise as needed without committing to a long-term hire.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary remote product manager?

To thrive as a Temporary Remote Product Manager, you need strong product lifecycle management experience, problem-solving abilities, and a background in business or technology, often supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, Agile methodologies, and product analytics platforms such as Google Analytics is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and collaboration skills help you effectively coordinate with cross-functional teams in a remote setup. These competencies ensure you can drive product success, align stakeholders, and deliver results even in a temporary, distributed environment.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary remote product managers and how can they overcome them?

Temporary remote Product Managers often face the challenge of quickly adapting to a new team and company culture while managing projects from a distance. Building trust and establishing strong communication with stakeholders can be more difficult without in-person interactions. To overcome these challenges, it’s important to proactively schedule regular check-ins, clearly document decisions and processes, and leverage collaboration tools to stay aligned with the team. Being flexible and open to feedback helps ensure a smooth transition and successful project delivery in a remote, temporary capacity.

We're seeking a Product Manager who's ready to be part of an innovative company delivering high-performance building solutions that simplify construction and ensure code compliance.

Job Title: Product Manager   |   Req ID: 17269   |   HR Contact: Sheena WATSON   |   Location: Building Envelope - Corp Northville, MI, Remote Worker - Michigan, Remote Worker - Michigan

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Product Manager will be the end-to-end owner of assigned OX Engineered Products, responsible for maximizing the product line's revenue, profitability, and market share. This role requires a blend of strategic vision, technical understanding of building science/construction, and commercial acumen to translate market needs into product requirements and successful launches. You will serve as the primary liaison between sales, marketing, R&D, operations, and executive leadership. This role will report directly to the Director of Marketing and Customer Operations.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

 Product Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Develop and champion a compelling, long-term product strategy and roadmap based on market analysis, competitive landscape, technological trends, and customer insights (e.g., builders, architects, contractors, distributors).
  • Define product lifecycle management (PLM) strategies, including new product introduction (NPI), ongoing optimization, and end-of-life planning.

Market Analysis & Voice of Customer (VoC):

  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify unmet customer needs, pain points, and emerging opportunities in the building envelope and construction materials space.
  • Gather and synthesize feedback from sales teams, customers, and industry experts to inform product requirements and validate value propositions.
  • Develop an in-depth competitor analysis for each of our product lines.

Product Development & Launch:

  • Translate market needs into clear, detailed Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) and Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) for the R&D and Operations teams.
  • Work closely with R&D on product design, performance specifications, testing, and regulatory compliance (e.g., codes, fire ratings).
  • Lead the Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy, planning, and execution for NPI, including defining positioning, messaging, pricing, channel strategy, and sales enablement.

Commercial Performance:

  • Monitor, analyze, and report on the product line's performance metrics, including revenue, gross margin, volume, and market share.
  • Manage product pricing to ensure profitability while maintaining competitive positioning.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop compelling product collateral, technical literature, and sales tools.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Building Science, Architecture, Business, or a related technical field. An MBA is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Management within the building materials, construction, or a related heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing products through the entire lifecycle, from concept to commercialization.
  • Experience with building envelope systems (e.g., structural sheathing, insulation, moisture barriers, roofing) is highly preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of building codes, construction practices, and building science principles (e.g., thermal performance, air/water resistance).
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present to executive leadership, technical teams, and external customers.
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
Proficiency in product management tools and techniques

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
