Job description

Powder Coat Technician

Mon-Thurs 5am - 3:30pm

Will apply powder coating to metal parts and components to provide a durable and high-quality finish. Will prepare surfaces, operate powder coating equipment, and ensure that the coated products meet quality standards and specifications.

Prepare metal parts by cleaning, degreasing, and sanding surfaces.

Inspect parts for defects or contaminants and perform necessary pre-coating treatments.

Set up and operate powder coating equipment, including spray guns, and curing systems.

Apply powder coating using electrostatic spray techniques to achieve an even and consistent coat.

Adjust equipment settings, such as voltage and airflow, to optimize coating quality and efficiency

Inspect coated parts for coverage, thickness, and finish quality to ensure they meet specifications and standards.

Identify and address any issues such as uneven coating, defects, or color inconsistencies.

Perform thickness measurements and adhesion tests as needed.

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of powder coating equipment and work areas to ensure proper functioning.

Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor and perform minor repairs as necessary.

Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling powders, chemicals, and operating equipment.

Adhere to environmental regulations and guidelines for handling and disposing of powder coating materials.

Maintain accurate records of coating activities, including batch numbers, coating parameters, and quality control checks.

Document any issues or deviations encountered during the coating process and report to the supervisor.

Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure timely production and meet quality standards.

Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding production status, issues, and any required adjustments.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in coating, painting, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in powder coating or a similar finishing role.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in operating powder coating equipment and understanding of coating techniques.
    • Ability to prepare surfaces properly and apply coatings evenly.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
    • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot coating issues.
    • Basic math skills for measuring coating thickness and mixing powders.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing or coating facility with exposure to powder coating equipment and materials.
  • May involve standing for extended periods and working in a controlled environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move materials or coated items as needed up to 50 weight lbs.
