Temporary Powder Coating Operator information

Is there a high demand for a temporary powder coating operator?

The demand for temporary powder coating operators is generally steady in manufacturing and industrial sectors, especially during peak production periods or when companies need short-term staffing. Opportunities may increase with industry growth, equipment upgrades, or increased production schedules, and relevant skills include operating spray booths and understanding safety protocols.

How hard is it to get into a temporary powder coating operator role?

Getting a temporary powder coating operator role typically requires basic mechanical skills, attention to safety procedures, and sometimes a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience with manufacturing equipment or certifications in safety or handling hazardous materials can improve chances, but many positions are entry-level and provide on-the-job training.

Job SummaryWe are seeking a Production Operator I – Powder Coat Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong maintenance experience and some machine operator background; maintenance skills are the most important aspect for this role, while machine operation has a shorter learning curve and does not require as high a skill level.
You will begin by working on the powder coating line—feeding 20ft aluminum panels with a team—and be trained in Quality Assurance (QA) for this process. In addition, you will receive hands-on training in the maintenance and care of machines and equipment, preparing you to take on increasingly complex tasks over time.
This role requires adherence to quality, safety, and productivity standards and contributes to a positive team environment that supports our company’s mission, vision, and values.
Key Responsibilities
Paint Line Duties:
  • Start by learning and performing the process of loading aluminum panels (with another team member).
  • Operate all coating equipment including guns, hoppers, reclaim system, and booth collection system.
  • Be trained in quality control (QA) procedures on finished panels.
  • Operate machinery or stations as instructed to meet production schedules.
  • Support standard recipe development for various parts or powders.
  • Monitor recipes and settings, making adjustments for quality and efficiency.
  • Minimize powder waste and optimize equipment function.
  • Make decisions to reduce defects and downtime.
  • Keep accurate records of production, waste, and quality checks.
Maintenance Duties:
  • Receive training in the maintenance and care of machines and equipment.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Properly clean and maintain all equipment.
  • Monitor and report maintenance needs and assist with routine maintenance tasks.
Environmental, Health, and Safety:
  • Follow OSHA Safety and EPA Environmental policies, as well as company procedures.
  • Maintain safe behaviors and promote safety among team members.
  • Participate in safety training/events.
  • Properly clean and maintain equipment.
  • Report safety and environmental incidents.
Quality:
  • Produce quality products without sacrificing safety or the environment.
  • Adhere to and improve upon quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues within knowledge and control; escalate as needed.
  • Check coating quality pre-cure using appropriate devices.
  • Monitor process variables for consistent product quality.

Physical and Mental Demands
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, handle/finger objects, and reach with arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and move up to 20 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.

Work Environment
  • Industrial/production environment; exposure to powder coating materials, moving machinery, and related conditions.
  • Adherence to all safety and environmental regulations essential.

Qualifications
  • Maintenance experience is strongly preferred; machine operator experience is also important.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and support a safety-first culture.
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to participate in training and process improvement.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs occasionally.
