Job description

Join our leadership team and play a key role in delivering high-performance coatings in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment.

Job Summary

The Powder Coater is responsible for preparing, coating, and curing sheet metal components using electrostatic powder coating equipment in accordance with production and quality standards. This role plays a key part in the final finishing process, ensuring parts are coated uniformly, free from defects, and compliant with customer specifications and AS9100 requirements. The Powder Coater works closely with fabrication, assembly, and quality teams to maintain production flow and meet delivery deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • **Part Preparation **

o Clean, degrease, and prepare sheet metal parts for coating using manual or automated methods.

o Mask parts according to blueprints and customer requirements to protect areas that must remain uncoated.

o Inspect parts for dents, scratches, or contamination before coating.

  • **Coating Application **

o Set up and operate powder coating equipment including spray guns, hoppers, and booths.

o Apply powder evenly to achieve proper coverage and film thickness.

o Monitor powder flow, spray patterns, and gun settings for consistency.

  • **Curing & Oven Operation **

o Load and unload parts onto racks or conveyors for curing.

o Monitor oven temperatures and cycle times to ensure proper curing of powder.

o Follow safety guidelines when operating or working near curing ovens.

  • **Quality Assurance **

o Inspect finished parts for coverage, adhesion, surface defects, and color consistency.

o Verify coating thickness using appropriate tools when required.

o Rework or notify supervisor of non-conforming parts.

  • **Material Handling & Workflow Support **

o Move coated and uncoated parts safely between prep, coating, and curing areas.

o Assist with racking and unracking parts without causing damage.

o Support production schedule and communicate delays or issues to the supervisor.

  • Safety & Compliance

o Wear required PPE including respirator, gloves, and eye protection.

o Follow all safety procedures when using equipment, handling powders, or operating ovens.

o Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience

o High school diploma or GED required.

o 1+ year of experience in powder coating or industrial painting preferred.

o Experience in a precision sheet metal or AS9100-certified environment is a plus.

  • Skills & Competencies

o Ability to operate powder coating equipment and follow work instructions.

o Understanding of coating preparation, masking, and curing processes.

o Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.

o Ability to read part labels, packing slips, and basic blueprints.

o Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • - Work performed in a finishing environment with exposure to powder coating materials, heat from curing ovens, and moving parts.

    • Requires standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling materials up to 50 lbs.
    • Use of respirators or other PPE may be required during specific tasks.** **
  • Schedule- 1st

    Shift Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday

    • 2nd

      Shift Hours: 2:15 PM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday

    • Some flexibility may be required based on production needs

  • Compensation- Hourly Range: $18-24 per hour

    • Benefits include shared-cost health care, paid holidays, paid time off, and a 401(k) with company match after a waiting period.
