How much do temporary order picker jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for temporary order picker in the United States is $16.85, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.38 and $18.27 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a Temporary Order Picker?

A Temporary Order Picker is a warehouse worker hired for a short-term period to locate, select, and prepare items for customer orders. They typically use handheld scanners or inventory lists to find products, collect them from shelves, and prepare them for shipment. Temporary Order Pickers often work during busy seasons or to cover staffing shortages and may be required to lift, move, and package various goods. This role is essential for efficient warehouse operations and timely order fulfillment.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

Jobs that can pay $2000 a day typically involve high-level skills, specialized expertise, or significant experience, such as certain consulting, executive, or freelance roles. These positions often require advanced certifications, a strong professional network, or work in industries like finance, law, or technology, and may involve long hours or project-based work.

Is order picking a temp job?

Order picking is often available as a temporary job, especially in warehouses and distribution centers during peak seasons or for short-term staffing needs. These roles typically involve using tools like pick lists or scanners and may require basic physical fitness. Temporary positions can sometimes lead to permanent employment based on performance and company needs.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A temporary order picker typically does not earn $10,000 a month; most warehouse roles pay hourly wages that, even with overtime, rarely reach that level. High earnings in such roles usually require extensive experience, high-volume facilities, or supervisory responsibilities, but generally, achieving $10,000 monthly without a degree is uncommon in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Order Picker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Order Picker, you need strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and the physical ability to lift and move inventory, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and pallet jacks is typically expected. Reliability, teamwork, and time management are essential soft skills that help you excel in fast-paced environments. These skills ensure accurate order fulfillment, efficiency, and safety, which are crucial for maintaining smooth warehouse operations.

What is the difference between Temporary Order Picker vs Temporary Warehouse Associate?

AspectTemporary Order PickerTemporary Warehouse Associate
Primary RolePicking and packing orders for shipmentGeneral warehouse tasks including stocking, shipping, and receiving
Skills & CertificationsBasic forklift or pallet jack certification often preferredBasic warehouse safety and equipment knowledge
Work EnvironmentWarehouse, often in distribution centersWarehouse, manufacturing, or storage facilities
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in retail, e-commerce, and logistics companiesUsed across various industries requiring warehouse support

Temporary Order Pickers focus on selecting and preparing products for shipment, often requiring specific certifications like forklift operation. Temporary Warehouse Associates perform broader warehouse tasks, including stocking and shipping. Both roles are essential in logistics and distribution, but they differ in scope and specific duties.

What are some common challenges a Temporary Order Picker might face during their assignment?

Temporary Order Pickers often work in fast-paced warehouse environments where meeting daily quotas and accuracy targets is crucial. Adapting quickly to new processes, learning warehouse layouts, and mastering inventory systems can be challenging, especially in short-term roles. Physical demands, such as standing for long periods and lifting heavy items, are common aspects of the job. Effective communication with supervisors and team members is essential to ensure orders are fulfilled correctly and on time. Successful order pickers stay organized, ask questions when needed, and remain flexible as priorities shift throughout their assignment.

What jobs make $1000 per hour?

Jobs that can pay $1000 per hour are typically highly specialized or involve high-risk activities, such as certain medical specialists, top-tier legal professionals, or expert consultants in finance or technology. These roles often require advanced skills, certifications, or significant experience, and are usually performed on a freelance, consulting, or contract basis. Such high hourly rates are uncommon and usually reserved for elite professionals in their fields.
