Job description

WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Project Specialist in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the Milwaukee office.  

The Project Specialist is a part of a job family (Project Specialist 1, Project Specialist 2, Project Specialist 3, Senior Project Specialist) where experience is the determining factor.

Job Summary

The Project Specialist is primarily responsible for day-to-day implementation and execution of WEC's Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance programs. The position is designed to ensure compliance with FERC's requirements, as well as NERC's mandatory reliability standards governing cybersecurity as well as physical operations of the electric system. The Project Specialist will also support state regulatory matters, as necessary. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and execute WEC Energy Group's FERC and NERC compliance programs
  • Support interactions and communications with FERC, NERC, and other regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and submit necessary documents to regulators, including pleadings, forms, and reports
  • Identify, support, monitor, and report on FERC-and NERC related compliance and policy developments
  • Support WEC's responses to FERC-and NERC related inquiries and compliance audits
  • Support corporate education- and training-efforts on FERC-and NERC related topics
  • Work with a diverse group of subject matter experts and leadership to support WEC's participation in the FERC-and NERC-policy development processes
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required in Business/Economics/Mathematics/Engineering or related field.  In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a 2 year degree in Legal related area plus 2 years of related experience will be considered
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in utility operations or related field preferred
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to function as a team player, handle multiple assignment in a fast-paced environment, have strong initiative and have solid interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills
  • Proven ability to forge relationships internal and external to the organization
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro (or similar PDF creation software), SharePoint (or similar file management software)
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment as well as individually

  • Strong attention to detail in task completion
  • Organizational skills
  • Functional ability in internet usage and accessing and using computer information systems with large amounts of data, including data analytics and modeling software package
  • Foundational understanding of business operations, cross-functional collaboration within IT Security, and engineering disciplines

Pay Range Minimum:  $68,436.68 

Pay Range Maximum:  $156,125.32 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
