Job Summary
MSI Connect is a graduate student community within Rackham Graduate School that brings together students who completed their undergraduate education at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). Through professional development, networking, and community-building opportunities, MSI Connect fosters meaningful connections among students while supporting their graduate experience at the University of Michigan.
The MSI Connect Student Coordinator works closely with the Rackham PACE team and MSI Connect ambassadors to coordinate programs, plan events, manage communications, and support the day-to-day operations of the program. This position is ideal for a graduate student who enjoys event planning, project coordination, and building community among peers.
Please Note: Some late afternoon, early evening, or occasional weekend work may be required to support MSI Connect programming and events.
Responsibilities*
  • Collaborate with Rackham staff and MSI Connect ambassadors to plan and execute professional development, networking, and community-building events throughout the academic year.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including reservations, catering, registration, room setup, supplies, and day-of-event support.
  • Assist with event communications, promotional materials, and participant outreach.
  • Support ambassador onboarding, meetings, and ongoing engagement.
  • Manage program budgets, track expenses, and process ambassador compensation.
  • Maintain program records, attendance, and event documentation.
  • Build relationships with campus partners and student organizations to support collaborative programming.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and participate in MSI Connect-sponsored events.
  • Assist with recruitment, welcome activities, and outreach for new MSI Connect participants.
  • Complete additional administrative and programmatic projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications*
  • Current graduate student enrolled in a Rackham Graduate School degree program.
  • Strong interest in student engagement, event planning, and community building.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership or involvement in student organizations, campus programming, or event coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar productivity software.
  • Experience with event planning, budgeting, project coordination, or student programming is preferred but not required.
