What are Temporary Looker Developers?

Temporary Looker Developers are professionals hired on a short-term basis to design, build, and optimize data analytics solutions using Looker, a business intelligence platform. They typically help organizations create dashboards, data models, and reports to enable data-driven decision-making. These developers are often brought in to cover staffing gaps, address project surges, or contribute specialized expertise without a long-term commitment. Their work ensures that businesses can quickly visualize and analyze data, even if they lack in-house Looker expertise.

What are some common challenges faced by Temporary Looker Developers during short-term projects?

As a Temporary Looker Developer, one of the main challenges is quickly understanding the client’s existing data infrastructure and business requirements in a limited time frame. You may also need to adapt to unfamiliar data models or teams, often requiring strong communication and documentation skills to ensure clarity. Additionally, balancing rapid dashboard development with maintaining best practices for data accuracy and visualization can be demanding. Collaborating effectively with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders is essential to deliver high-impact solutions within tight deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Looker Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Looker Developer, you need strong data analysis skills, proficiency in SQL, and experience with Looker modeling (LookML), often supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with Looker, data visualization best practices, and cloud data warehouses like BigQuery or Snowflake is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you translate business needs into actionable data insights. These skills ensure accurate, impactful dashboards and reports that support timely business decisions during short-term projects.

Job description

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our infrastructure team. In this role, you will be the backbone of our high-availability cloud presence, ensuring that our large-scale production systems-handling petabytes of data-remain scalable, secure, and resilient. You will bridge the gap between development and operations, leveraging deep GCP expertise and automation to drive a culture of "infrastructure as code."
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have (Required)
  • Experience: 5+ years in SRE, DevOps, or Cloud Operations, including participation in 24/7 on-call rotations.
  • GCP Ecosystem: Expert proficiency in GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine), GCE, VPC networking, Cloud Security, and IAM.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced skills in Terraform, Ansible, and managing Kubernetes deployments via Helm Charts.
  • Programming & CI/CD: Proficiency in Python, Node.js, and Java with the ability to architect and maintain complex CI/CD pipelines.
  • Core Infrastructure: Deep understanding of Linux internals, TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, CDN, and Load Balancing.
  • Scalability: Proven experience managing large-scale production networks and high-traffic applications.
Advantageous (Nice-to-Have)
  • Data & Storage: Hands-on with GCS, Cloud SQL, Spanner, and Memorystore.
  • Modern Analytics/AI: Experience with Vertex AI, BigQuery, Dataproc, and Looker.
  • Observability: Familiarity with Google Cloud Observability and OpenTelemetry standards.
  • Migration: A track record of successfully migrating legacy on-premise infrastructure to GCP.
Soft Skills & Mindset
  • Collaborative Communicator: Ability to translate complex cloud architecture into actionable insights for senior engineering leadership.
  • Agile Practitioner: Experience working within Scrum/Agile frameworks and the ability to define and execute SMART sprint goals.
  • AI-Forward: A proactive approach to integrating Generative AI and LLMs into daily engineering workflows to increase team velocity.
  • Growth Mindset: A commitment to continuous improvement and post-mortem learning cultures.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Years of Experience: 5+ years of dedicated cloud/SRE experience.
  • Industry Background: Strong preference for candidates coming from large-scale internet companies or "Big Tech" environments.
  • Data Scale: Experience managing environments that process petabytes of data is a significant differentiator.
  • Leadership: While this is a senior individual contributor role, the candidate should demonstrate "leading by example" through code quality and architectural mentorship.
