Job description

Position Information This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time without notice. Examination Schedule: Written Exam: Qualified candidates will be notified of the testing date five days prior to the examination Examination: Written Exam: (100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of the principles of gasoline and diesel engine mechanics as applied to maintenance and repair; and the procedures, tools equipment, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of both light and heavy motorized equipment; knowledge of smog control devices and diagnostic equipment. Applicants must attain at least 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards: Three (3) years of experience repairing heavy motorized equipment, including one (1) year of experience with diesel engines. Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's License required to successfully pass the six (6) months probationary period. This examination will establish an eligible list from which appointment(s) will be made at the Kern County Fire Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
