Human Resources Manager – Food Distribution Center

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing and supporting all aspects of HR operations within the Distribution Center. This role partners closely with leadership and employees to ensure effective HR practices, compliance with employment laws, and a positive workplace environment.

HR Operations & Employee Support

  • Provide HR guidance and support to management and employees regarding company policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Manage employee lifecycle processes, including recruitment, onboarding, promotions, transfers, and separations.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and update HR systems with new hires, status changes, and personnel information.
  • Conduct new employee orientations and support ongoing employee development and training initiatives.
  • Foster positive employee relations by promoting engagement, communication, and a strong workplace culture.
  • Address employee concerns, conduct investigations, and support timely resolution of workplace issues.

Talent Management & Performance Management

  • Partner with leadership to support staffing needs, including direct hires and temporary workforce management.
  • Coordinate performance management processes to ensure expectations are established, documented, and aligned with company goals.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers regarding employee performance, corrective actions, and policy application.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with executives, managers, and employees at all levels.
  • Support workforce planning and organizational development initiatives.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Stay current on labor law updates and recommend changes to policies and procedures as needed.
  • Ensure accurate completion and maintenance of all I-9 documentation for current and former employees.
  • Support unemployment claims processes, including preparation of documentation and company representation during hearings when required.
  • Assist with safety initiatives, workers’ compensation programs, and compliance requirements.

 Benefits & HR Administration

  • Assist employees with general benefits questions and support annual open enrollment activities.
  • Monitor compliance related to new hire documentation, pay ranges, and employment records.
  • Maintain organizational charts, personnel files, and HR reporting documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain HR procedures, reports, and records related to employee transactions.

Distribution Center HR Leadership

  • Work closely with the Distribution Center Manager to support operational goals and workforce needs.
  • Partner with staffing agencies to ensure temporary employees follow company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Monitor the Distribution Center environment and communicate employee relations concerns or operational issues to leadership.
  • Supervise and support daily activities of HR team members.
  • Support and oversee HR training programs and conduct HR-related training sessions as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze feedback, and recommend improvements.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and communication efforts.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; however, significant relevant HR experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on Human Resources Generalist and/or HR Management experience required.
  • Experience supporting recruitment, temporary staffing, benefits administration, employee relations, labor relations, and safety programs.
  • Previous HR experience in a warehouse, distribution center, manufacturing, or production environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, with the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including:

    • PowerPoint
  • Experience with HRIS systems and employee management platforms preferred.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to analyze situations, exercise sound judgment, and make recommendations regarding employee relations and HR matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and support a diverse workforce.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
