Job Description
The Gatehouse Attendant serves as the primary point of contact for all individuals entering the University's inner campus through the main and east gatehouses. This role is highly customer-facing and requires professionalism, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service. The attendant ensures safe, efficient access control while assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors with directions, parking needs, and general inquiries.
Customer Service & Assistance
  • Greet all campus visitors in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Provide clear directions, campus information, and guidance to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist with parking inquiries, permits, and access-related questions.
  • De-escalate tense situations with professionalism and empathy, maintaining a service-oriented approach.
  • Serve as a helpful and visible representative of the University during overnight hours.

Access Control & Monitoring
  • Verify credentials and authorize entry to the inner campus in accordance with University policies.
  • Issue temporary access passes or provide instructions for proper authorization when needed.
  • Maintain awareness of suspicious activity and report concerns promptly.

Operational Duties
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional gatehouse environment.
  • Operate gate systems, radios, and any required technology efficiently.
  • Follow all established procedures for emergency situations and protocols.

Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced or public-facing role.
  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and professional during overnight hours.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn campus systems.

Preferred:
  • Prior experience in customer service, security, parking services, or hospitality.
  • Familiarity with campus layout or similar institutional environments.

Hourly Pay Rate: $18.50/hour
