LOCATION: Nespelem, WA
Summary:
The Accounting Manager at Colville Fuels LLC is responsible for overseeing the accounting department and managing all aspects of financial functions, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, and budget and forecast preparation. This role ensures the organization's financial health, compliance with regulations, and alignment with the cultural values of the Colville Tribes. The Accounting Manager also supervises the accounting team and provides strategic financial insights to support informed decision-making, sustainable growth, and the achievement of company goals.
Essential Functions:
Leadership and Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Establish and enforce accounting processes, policies, and controls to maintain financial integrity and compliance.

Financial Oversight:
  • Oversee the management of financial accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and tribal guidelines.
  • Review financial records and prepare detailed financial reports, statements, and analyses for management and Board of Directors.

Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Lead the development of the annual budget and mid-term forecasts in collaboration with department leaders, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and community objectives.
  • Analyze budget variances and financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to drive cost-effective operations and resource optimization

Audit and Compliance Management:
  • Coordinate external audits and internal reviews, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and adherence to audit recommendations.
  • Monitor changes in financial regulations and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance and mitigate risks.

Internal Controls and Risk Management:
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard assets, ensure accurate financial reporting, and minimize financial risks.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and develop strategies to address identified risks, aligning with organizational and tribal values.

Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Oversee tax filings and regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.

Advise the CFO and executive management on tax strategies to maximize financial efficiency.
Cultural and Community Integration:
  • Integrate tribal values into financial practices, promoting transparency, trust, and sustainable community development.
  • Support and participate in community engagement activities, offering financial expertise to support tribal projects and initiatives.

Technological Advancement:
  • Optimize accounting software and tools to enhance financial operations, reporting accuracy, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Research and implement new financial technologies that align with best practices and organizational goals.

Strategic Financial Analysis:
  • Conduct financial analyses and modeling to support strategic initiatives, business decisions, and investment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver financial insights that align with organizational and tribal objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with advanced expertise in financial reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct accounting software preferred, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills for financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, motivate, and mentor an accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
  • Expertise in conducting comprehensive financial analyses, including variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and overseeing internal control systems to safeguard financial integrity and mitigate risks.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities for addressing complex financial challenges and implementing effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders, including tribal councils and community leaders.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting management or a similar financial leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in fuel station operations, retail, hospitality, or a closely related industry, particularly within a tribal or community-focused organization.
  • Familiarity with tribal governance, cultural values, and financial management practices.
  • Demonstrated success in leading financial strategy, analysis, and project management.

Physical Requirements:
