Flag Football Head Coach
Tribal School
Department of Human Services
Contracted $3500.00/Temporary/Part-Time
The Head Coach is responsible for the overall administration, supervision, and development of the Flag Football program. This role involves teaching technical skills, fostering sportsmanship, and ensuring the safety and well-being of student-athletes. The Head Coach serves as a mentor and leader, aligning the athletic program with the mission and values of the Yakama Nation Tribal School.
Examples of Work Performed:
Plan, organize, and conduct daily practice sessions that focus on skill development and strategy.
Manage game-day operations, including play-calling, player rotations, and equipment setup.
Monitor the academic performance of the team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
Collaborate with the Athletic Director to manage schedules, facilities for practices and competitions, transportation, and budget.
Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and the community regarding program updates.
Ensure all equipment is maintained and safety protocols (including concussion protocols) are strictly followed. Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
Assign duties to the assistant coach as necessary.
Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Observe players during practice and games to evaluate individual needs and team improvements to enhance game strategy and team capabilities against opponents.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and always provide proper supervision of the athletes.
Follow state, regional and district regulations governing the athletic program.
Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs and other organizations.
Work with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Participate in special activities to include parents' night, banquets, award nights and pep assemblies.
Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory and other related records.
Promote a positive team culture centered on the "Student-First" mentality.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of flag football rules, offensive/defensive strategies, and officiating standards.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and discipline students fairly.
Cultural Competency: Ability to work effectively within the Yakama Nation community and respect local traditions.
Organizational Skills: Proficiency in managing schedules, rosters, and administrative paperwork.
Effective Communication: Ability to speak clearly and professionally to students, parents, and officials
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaching staff, school administrators, parents, and students.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
Prior coaching experience at the youth, middle, or high school level.
No history of child abuse or neglect.
No history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Required to pass a pre-employment background check (including Tribal School requirements and Federal requirements).
Before the beginning of the third year of coaching must complete a school district approved Coaching Principles training that requires a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School. After training completion coaches will be required to repeat this training every three (3) years.
Annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA approved rule clinic for the sport being coached prior to the end of the third week of the sports season.
Possess a valid current First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain) or have completed a School District approved Athletic Training/Sports Medicine course equivalent to the Red Cross First Aid Card training or be enrolled in a First Aid Class.
Possess a valid current CPR Certification or be enrolled in and approved CPR C, it must be renewed every three years.
Have successfully completed Concussion recognition and management with Return to Play protocols and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness trainings as required by Washington State Law that must be renewed every three (3) years.
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Yakama enrolled preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
