Position Overview


As an Operations Intern at Southern Methodist University (SMU), you will be responsible for supporting the General Manager and Assistant General Manager. The intern will work closely with Rhino General Manager and Asst. General Manager members of the athletic department, and Rhino staff members.ย

Requirements

Primary duties to include, but not limited to:ย 


- Perform general office duties

- Assist in the training and supervision of game day staff members

- Assist management with game day setup

- Prepare, organize, maintain, and inventory game day supplies and equipment

- Learn and administer policies and procedures regarding admission, food and beverage, and other venue operations

- Be a part of the management team and serve as a liaison on game day between athletic department/guests

- Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements


- Commitment to all home football games 10-12 hours, the day prior of each home football game, assigned men's/women's home soccer & basketball games; includes nights and weekends

- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program

- Strong communication skills

- Strong leadership skills

- Ability to solve problems under pressure

- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritizing skills

- Strong customer service skills

- Have reliable transportation

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, etc.)ย 


Physical Requirements


- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events

- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, including outdoor spaces

- Ability to travel to event sites, as needed

- Ability to lift and carry items up to 40 pounds


Requirements:ย 

  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time (outside, possibly in the elements)
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Strong customer service skills preferred
  • Comfortable speaking with strangers and answering questions
