F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a temporary employment authorization for international students in the U.S. that allows work related to their field of study for up to 12 months, with extensions available for certain STEM fields. It is not classified as a work visa but a temporary work authorization tied to student status.

A Temporary F1 OPT holder can increase earning potential by finding remote jobs that pay competitive wages, such as freelance work, online tutoring, or digital services, which may allow earning $2000 weekly with consistent effort. Success depends on skills, experience, and the ability to secure high-paying opportunities, often requiring strong communication and technical tools. What jobs can I work on OPT?

On OPT, F1 students can work in jobs related to their field of study, including internships, part-time, or full-time positions that align with their major. Employment must be directly related to their degree program and can include roles in various industries such as technology, healthcare, education, and business, often requiring relevant skills and sometimes certifications. The work environment can vary, but employment must comply with OPT regulations and reporting requirements.

Can I work more than 40 hours on F-1 OPT?

F-1 OPT allows for full-time employment, typically up to 40 hours per week. However, during the initial 12 months of OPT, students can work more than 40 hours if the employer agrees, as long as the employment is related to their field of study and they do not violate any employment restrictions set by USCIS. It is important to maintain employment that aligns with OPT requirements and report any changes to your designated school official or USCIS if necessary.
