Job Summary
The Mpowering Student Assistant will support students who have experienced time in foster care by assisting the Life Skills Coach with various program-related tasks. This role helps foster a supportive, organized, and resourceful environment, that ensures students have access to the tools and guidance they need to succeed.
Responsibilities*
Event Planning and Support
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and executing events (e.g., workshops, info sessions, or celebrations).
  • Help track RSVPs, prepare event materials, and provide on-site support during events.
  • Collect and compile feedback after events for future improvements.

Program Project Support
  • Contribute to brainstorming and planning new initiatives and student-focused projects.
  • Assist with creating resource materials, guides, and presentations.
  • Help coordinate with students, faculty, or external partners involved in projects.
  • Keep project documents organized and help track progress on timelines and deliverables.

Required Qualifications*
  • Currently enrolled at UM-Flint during the semester(s) employed.
  • Adequate computer and writing skills Must exercise a strengths-based approach in being sensitive, respectful, and understanding of the needs of the student's participating in the Mpowering Program.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve swiftly and responsibly
  • Maintain a professional appearance and character.

Modes of Work
Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .
