What are Temporary Counterintelligence Agents (35L)?

Temporary Counterintelligence Agents (35L) are U.S. Army personnel who are assigned to counterintelligence roles on a temporary basis. Their primary duties involve detecting, investigating, and preventing threats to national security, such as espionage, sabotage, and terrorism. They collect and analyze information related to potential security risks both within the Army and from external sources. Temporary assignments may occur due to operational needs or shortages and typically require the same qualifications and training as regular Counterintelligence Agents.

What are some common challenges faced by Temporary Counterintelligence Agents (35L), and how can new agents prepare for them?

Temporary Counterintelligence Agents (35L) often face challenges such as rapidly adapting to new environments, maintaining strict confidentiality, and processing large amounts of sensitive information under tight deadlines. New agents should be prepared to work in dynamic, sometimes high-pressure settings and collaborate closely with both military and civilian personnel. Building strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential, as well as developing effective communication strategies to interact with diverse teams and sources. Continuous learning and seeking mentorship from experienced agents can help new hires adapt more quickly and handle the unique demands of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Counterintelligence Agent (35L), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Counterintelligence Agent (35L), you need a solid background in intelligence gathering, analysis, and threat assessment, often supported by completion of Army counterintelligence training and security clearance eligibility. Familiarity with intelligence databases, reporting systems, and specialized surveillance tools is critical for managing sensitive information and conducting investigations. Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and critical thinking enable effective interviews and collaboration with both military and civilian personnel. These skills ensure operational security, accurate threat identification, and the protection of national interests.
