Job description

The CG Business Intelligence Systems Technical Training Specialist provides training, outreach, instructional design, and user support services in support of the U.S. Coast Guard's Business Intelligence Systems Program. This position is responsible for developing and delivering training programs, supporting end users, creating instructional materials, and promoting adoption of Coast Guard business intelligence, reporting, analytics, and data visualization tools throughout the organization.
The Specialist works directly with military and civilian personnel at all levels of the Coast Guard, providing technical instruction, system support, communications assistance, and outreach activities that improve user proficiency and enhance mission effectiveness through data-driven decision making.
The position requires independent performance of assigned duties, strong communication and presentation skills, and the flexibility to support a demanding nationwide travel schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Training Delivery
  • Deliver instructor-led classroom training, virtual training sessions, workshops, webinars, and one-on-one support related to Coast Guard Business Intelligence Systems.
  • Provide functional and technical instruction on business intelligence tools, reporting platforms, analytics capabilities, and data visualization solutions.
  • Conduct targeted virtual support sessions using approved Coast Guard collaboration tools, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Adapt training delivery methods to meet the needs of diverse user groups and mission requirements.
User Support & Outreach
  • Provide direct support to Coast Guard personnel utilizing business intelligence systems and reporting tools.
  • Assist users with troubleshooting system issues, understanding functionality, and maximizing system capabilities.
  • Participate in outreach activities designed to increase awareness, adoption, and effective utilization of Coast Guard Business Intelligence Systems.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts across Coast Guard operational and support commands.
Curriculum Development & Instructional Design
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials using the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model.
  • Create and maintain:
    • Student guides
    • Instructor lesson plans
    • Job aids
    • Quick reference guides
    • Training presentations
    • Standard operating procedures
    • User support documentation
  • Ensure all instructional materials remain current and aligned with system updates and organizational requirements.
Data Visualization & Analytics Support
  • Develop educational materials supporting enterprise data visualization and analytics initiatives.
  • Assist users in understanding and applying business intelligence concepts, dashboards, reports, and performance metrics.
  • Promote best practices for data analysis, reporting, and information sharing.
  • Support training efforts related to Coast Guard analytics and reporting platforms.
Communications & Knowledge Management
  • Assist with development and maintenance of communications materials supporting Business Intelligence Systems initiatives.
  • Support management of SharePoint content, training resources, and outreach materials.
  • Participate in meetings, working groups, demonstrations, and stakeholder engagement events.
  • Prepare meeting summaries, recommendations, and supporting documentation when required.
Travel & Field Support
  • Travel extensively to Coast Guard locations nationwide to conduct training and outreach activities.
  • Coordinate and support on-site workshops, classroom instruction, and user engagement sessions.
  • Maintain flexibility to support changing travel schedules and operational requirements.
  • Represent the Coast Guard Business Intelligence Systems Program in a professional manner during field engagements.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience.
  • Experience in training, public speaking, classroom instruction, facilitation, or teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Experience interacting with customers, stakeholders, or users in a professional environment.

  • Familiarity with SharePoint and enterprise collaboration tools.
  • Experience supporting organizational change management, user adoption initiatives, or enterprise software implementations.
