Job description

As part of Eater's mission to build the world's best restaurant recommendation platform, our Dining team shapes restaurant coverage that helps readers decide where to eat - and why it matters. In this role, you'll create engaging, trustworthy stories that reflect Eater's voice and values. You'll leverage your voice as a guide and tastemaker, and demonstrate local authority while ensuring our work reaches audiences where they are and makes an impact.
All staffers at Eater work across Eater's umbrella of brands (Eater, Punch, Pre Shift, Thrillist) on a variety of platforms (on-site, social video, newsletter, the app, and more). Staffers are expected to represent Eater at industry events, brand events, and media and press opportunities.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Skilled in executing social video (including confidence and poise appearing on camera) and producing audience-focused storytelling on platforms such as Instagram.
  • Proficient in Photoshop to create visually engaging carousels and high-touch social media posts.
  • An eager diner with strong tastemaking sensibilities who's comfortable translating that experience into engaging, clear, and informative service journalism for maps, dining reports, newsletters, and more.
  • Experienced with editing and fact-checking news and service coverage. You know not only how to write a good blurb, but also how to work with writers to make their service sing.
  • Strong news judgement with an eye towards breaking stories that are engaging and relevant to local audiences.
  • Experience working with and managing freelance contributors as well as proficiency in Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • You're located within the Austin, Texas, or Chicago markets and familiar with the food and beverage landscape in your city.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Write and edit engaging copy for all Eater platforms, with an understanding of how tone and visuals differ across platforms (Instagram, Reels, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, BlueSky, and others).
  • Engage with audiences across social media and newsletters, and maintain brand voice across platforms.
  • Support the editing and production of news and service journalism across all platforms in multiple key markets in collaboration with Dining Editorial Manager.
  • Assist in the support, maintenance, and improvement of the Eater App.
  • Willingness and ability to dine out for work-related research, including outside of work hours.
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
This job is remote based in either Austin, TX or Chicago, IL.
