Temporary Contract Assembly information

What is a temporary contract assembly?

A Temporary Contract Assembly job involves assembling components or products for a company on a short-term or project-based contract. Workers in this role are often hired to meet increased production demands or to cover labor shortages, and their employment is generally limited to a specific period or until the completion of a particular project. Duties typically include following assembly instructions, using hand or power tools, inspecting finished products, and maintaining a clean workspace. Temporary contract assembly positions can be found in various industries, such as manufacturing, electronics, or automotive. These roles are ideal for individuals seeking flexible or seasonal work opportunities.

What skills and qualifications are needed for temporary contract assembly?

To thrive as a Temporary Contract Assembly worker, you need a good understanding of basic assembly techniques, manual dexterity, and experience with hand or power tools, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with manufacturing systems, quality control processes, and sometimes basic ERP or inventory software is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions and work efficiently as part of a team are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure products are assembled accurately and efficiently, supporting overall production goals and quality standards.

What are common challenges in temporary contract assembly, and how can they be addressed?

In a temporary contract assembly position, one common challenge is adapting quickly to new processes and team dynamics, as assignments can change frequently. Since the work is often fast-paced and deadline-driven, maintaining high quality while meeting productivity goals requires strong attention to detail and time management skills. Asking questions early, reviewing standard operating procedures thoroughly, and seeking feedback from supervisors can help ease the transition and ensure success. Building rapport with permanent team members also fosters a collaborative environment, making it easier to integrate and perform well.

What is the difference between Temporary Contract Assembly vs Permanent Assembly Worker?

AspectTemporary Contract AssemblyPermanent Assembly Worker
Employment DurationShort-term, project-based or seasonalLong-term, ongoing employment
CredentialsTypically no specific certifications requiredMay require relevant certifications or experience

Job StabilityLess stable, contract-basedMore stable, with benefits

Temporary Contract Assembly roles are short-term, project-based positions often used to meet seasonal or fluctuating production needs. Permanent Assembly Workers have ongoing employment with benefits and job stability. Both roles typically require similar skills and work environments, but differ mainly in duration and job security.

Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (SolidWorks)

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with advanced SolidWorks expertise to lead the design, development, and documentation of complex mechanical components and systems. In this role, you will own projects from concept through production, create high-quality 3D models and detailed engineering drawings, and develop accurate bills of materials to support manufacturing and procurement. You will collaborate closely with a cross-functional engineering and production team, contribute to new product introduction initiatives, and help mentor junior engineers in a fast-growing, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using SolidWorks, ensuring that all designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Create, update, and review 3D models, 2D drawings, and detailed bills of materials (BOMs) to support engineering, production, and procurement activities.
  • Utilize advanced SolidWorks features such as sheet metal, weldments, surfacing, and simulation tools to develop robust, production-ready designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and engineering, to translate product requirements into practical, production-ready solutions.
  • Support new product introduction efforts by driving designs from concept through prototyping, validation, and release to production.
  • Maintain and manage CAD documentation, including drawing revisions, file structures, templates, and Product Data Management (PDM) systems to ensure data integrity and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and complete BOMs and related documentation to facilitate efficient production planning and material procurement.
  • Participate in and support root cause analysis and corrective action activities, with a strong focus on design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Troubleshoot design-related issues involving tolerances, dimensional stack-ups, drawings, or production challenges, and implement effective design improvements.
  • Assist with prototype builds, including preparing documentation, supporting assembly, and incorporating feedback into design iterations.
  • Create, process, and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and contribute to overall product lifecycle management activities.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, internal engineering requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for design and process improvements, supporting continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing.

Essential Skills (Must haves)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design engineering or a closely related role.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, including 3D modeling and 2D drafting for complex mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Proven experience creating and managing detailed bills of materials (BOMs) to support production and procurement.
  • Hands-on experience supporting new product introduction, taking designs from concept through prototyping and into production.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturability, and practical application in a production environment.
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret detailed engineering drawings, including tolerances and geometric dimensioning.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production-oriented environment and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot design issues and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a small, fast-paced engineering team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications (Nice to haves)

  • Experience with HVAC or refrigeration systems and their mechanical components.
  • Experience in sheet metal design using SolidWorks, including forming, bending, and fabrication considerations.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement initiatives and methodologies within engineering or manufacturing settings.
  • Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds and incorporating feedback into design refinements.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools and structured problem-solving approaches.
  • Experience creating, processing, and managing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and working within a product lifecycle management framework.
