Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is now hiring summer temporary construction technicians! Whether you're looking for temporary work for extra income through the summer months or looking to test out a new position prior to making a long-term commitment, we encourage you to apply! Pay rate of $19.941 per hour to start.
Locations hiring: North Platte and Broken Bow. Summer positions, temporary, until November 30, 2026. Hours may depend on the weather, may be more or less than 40 hours per week.

Job Duties:

Successful applicants will be under immediate supervision and trained to perform inspection on routine phases of construction projects. May use windows-based computer programs, including Microsoft Word and/or Excel, to keep construction records and documentation, as necessary. May also participate as a member of a survey crew and perform tests on construction materials. Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license. Experience not required.

Preferred Qualifications: Coursework, training, and/or experience in math, construction management, and engineering. Basic computer experience.

Other: May require out of town, overnight travel. Regular and reliable attendance is also required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Effective communication skills. Must have strong work ethic, dedication and ability to work as part of a team. Must be able to safely move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend or stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high-speed traffic. Must be able to be reached to report to work outside scheduled work hours for highway emergencies within 45 minutes of notification.
