Job description

Overview
Make your move to Alaska! Experience the midnight sun in the summer, a front-row seat to the northern lights in the winter, and the opportunity to advance your career as you broaden your scope of practice.
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital seeks an inpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist to join our highly experienced team as we prepare to expand our unit to include 4 new adolescent rooms.
The Opportunity:
Join our team at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital's inpatient psychiatric unit, where you'll be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary group dedicated to patient-centered care. While currently an adult-only unit, we are excited to expand in late 2026 to include four adolescent rooms, the first of their kind in Interior Alaska. We are seeking a board-certified child psychiatrist who is comfortable working with both adults and adolescents to help shape this growing program.
Our department values meaningful patient interactions, recognizing that building trust leads to better outcomes. Weekly case staffing sessions with community partners allow us to collaborate and leverage local resources for comprehensive patient support. This is a unique opportunity to help develop a much-needed inpatient program for adolescents, bringing an essential service to our community for the first time.
  • Compensation: $390k base salary, $37,500 estimated on-call compensation, $65k sign-on bonus.
  • Schedule: 225 8/hr shifts per year with an estimated 75 call shifts.
  • Patients: 20-bed unit, average of 12 patients per day, adult only with plans in place to expand to include a 4-bed adolescent unit by Q4 2026.
  • Team: The department is well-supported by three full-time psychiatric nurse practitioners, one full time psychiatrist, a healthy psychiatry per-diem bench, case managers, and social workers.

Foundation Health Partners:
Foundation Health Partners is a community-owned and operated health system in Fairbanks, Alaska that includes Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, numerous outpatient primary and specialty care clinics, and Denali Center, a skilled nursing facility. As the most advanced medical facility for hundreds of miles, we are highly committed to treating the medical needs of everyone who comes through our doors.
FHP is proud to offer its providers:
  • Professional autonomy and clinical work freedom.
  • Strong commitment to work-life balance. Not just words, our leadership values your time.
  • Comprehensive benefits package - 401k, medical, dental, vision, etc.
  • $5,000 paid CME, licensure/credential reimbursement, and covered malpractice insurance.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with the state's most extensive multidisciplinary health system.
  • 501(c)(3) non-profit status = eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
  • 90 days of temporary housing for relocating providers.
