Job Description Summary:

The Computer Operator I (CO I) monitors and operates control consoles of mainframe digital computers or groups of minicomputers to process data. This role involves executing tasks as per operating instructions, performing data entry, conducting quality control checks, and assisting with system modifications under close supervision.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and operate the control console of mainframe computers or minicomputers.
  • Execute test runs of new or modified programs.
  • Assist in modifying systems or programs as instructed.
  • Resolve common operating problems with detailed guidance.
  • Conduct data entry and quality control checks of data.
  • Investigate data anomalies and handle requests for information.
  • Record data authentication group meeting notes and track requests for information.
  • Manage accounting for all data in and out of the data management cell.
  • Scan paper-based data products to digital format and shred paper-based copies.
  • Utilize MS Access, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint for data management and reporting.


General Duties:

  • Serve as an assistant operator working under close supervision.
  • Perform portions of work assigned to more senior operators.
  • Use tablets for electronic data collection.
  • Must be able to perform duties working in a field environment traveling on foot in support of tactoca; mission
  • Must be able to carry a 10lb backpack with equipment (tablet, food, water, etc.) throughout field environment
  • Must be able to walk approximately 5 miles through the field environment throughout your shift
  • Must be able to get in and out of military vehicles
  • Must to be able to be outside in extreme heat conditions for long periods of time
  • Comfortable communicating via military radios utilizing phonetic alphabet and terminology
  • Comfortable with limited restroom facilities


Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must hold US Citizenship.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Common Access Card and Local Area Network account required.
  • Valid State driver's license and car insurance for access to military installations and travel.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quality control and data management.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Two years of experience in automated data processing or a similar administrative occupation.
  • Proficiency in quality control capabilities.
  • Knowledge of MS Access, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Ability to use tablets for electronic data collection.
  • College coursework in a computer-related field is desirable.
