Position Summary
UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media invites applications for a half-time temporary Communications/ Marketing Assistant. The responsibilities of this role are as follows:
The Digital Media Coordinator (DMC) will be responsible for creating the graphic designs and coordinating the social media campaign for the 2026 edition of Converge-Con, UNC Hussman's annual conference that explores the rapid convergence of human skills with artificial intelligence. The DMC will work with the Converge-Con director to shape the brand and visual identity of the event, and execute the vision by creating graphics, video, and copy. As the leader of the social media campaign, the DMC will also work with stakeholders to create a sizable presence for Converge-On on various platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn. The DMC will also ensure that the social media content is updated regularly and track engagement through analytics.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in audiovisual equipment operation and maintenance, graphic design, and/or photography; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences
Demonstrated proficiency with industry leading content creation software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Canva, or Capcut
Deep knowledge of current algorithm trends for TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube Shorts to understand how to leverage user-generated content by encouraging attendees to use specific hashtags and reposting their content effectively
One year of professional experience in graphic design and/or social media coordination
Experience withGenerative AI software for content creation, e.g., Midjourney, Runway, Veo 3, Nano Banana, ElevenLabs
Demonstrated experience using generative AI software to create compelling, ethical content and expedite workflows
