Job description

Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for outreaching and engaging clients in the TAY Drop in Center and the community in order to assist them with identifying potential barriers to receiving continued treatment, as well as removing barriers when possible. The Peer Support Specialist conducts community presentations and provide peer support groups. The Peer Support Specialist operates from a strengths-based, individualized, team-driven, community-based perspective. The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for creating a low barrier access to Penny Lane Services whenever possible. The Peer Support Specialist will practice solution-focused problem solving. The Peer Support Specialist provides collateral services, support, advocacy, system orientation, mentoring, and other supportive services to TAY Clients.  

The Peer Support Specialist needs to be comfortable with public speaking and outreach. This position requires marketing and engagement in various settings and situations. The Peer Support Specialist needs to be comfortable sharing their own LGBTQI2-S experience/story as appropriate to educate, advocate, and inspire hope.

Requirements:

  • The Peer Support Specialist will be a person who has personal experience as a TAY dealing with formal systems such as DCFS or Probation. This individual must also have lived experience as a LGBTQI2-S TAY or a family member of a LGBTQI2-S TAY.
  • The applicant will submit a letter of interest outlining his or her personal system experience as a TAY dealing with formal systems of DCFS or Probation. (The DCFS and/or Probation case must be closed for at least 12 months).  This letter must also reflect their experience of a LGBTQI2-S TAY or family member of a LBTQI2-S TAY.
  • Bilingual Spanish Preferred (verbal skillset only). 
  • Must have a current valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance. Must have and maintain a clean driving record acceptable to the organization’s insurance company. Must have immediate access to his or her vehicle during work hours.

Position Location: Commerce, CA

Position Status: Temporary Full Time.

Salary Range: $19.50 up to $28.50 per hour

Additional $1.00 per hour bilingual Spanish differential.
