Camp Cook (Base Camp)

Returning to the Land Culture Camp
This is a temporary position expected to last less than 30 days.
Position Summary
The Camp Cook plays a vital role in supporting the health, wellness, and cultural experience of participants at the Returning to the Land Culture Camp at Lower Baldy Base Camp. This position is responsible for preparing nutritious meals, including traditional and culturally meaningful foods, while ensuring a safe and well-organized food environment in a remote, outdoor setting.
The Camp Cook contributes to the overall camp experience by providing meals that nourish participants and reflect the cultural values of the program.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare daily meals and snacks for camp participants and staff
  • Incorporate traditional foods and culturally relevant ingredients when possible
  • Ensure all food preparation is conducted safely and in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and functional cooking area in an outdoor/wilderness environment
  • Monitor and manage food inventory, including tracking supplies and communicating needs to camp leadership
  • Safely store, handle, and transport food and cooking supplies as needed
  • Assist with meal planning in coordination with camp leadership
  • Support camp logistics as needed, including set-up and clean-up of kitchen and dining areas
  • Ensure meals are inclusive and considerate of dietary needs and restrictions
  • Model respectful and positive interactions with participants and staff
Required Qualifications
