Position Overview
*The 14-day in-house notice is incorporated in this job announcement.
This recruitment will remain open until filled, and may close without notice at any time after the initial 14 day period. Assessments will occur on an ongoing basis.
The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy within the series of Combination Plans Examiner in the Department of Building and Fire Safety/Development Services Center. The department will consider and may hire a candidate who is qualified at any level in the series. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to (1) year depending on current employment status**.
Under general supervision, reviews submitted building and structural plans and specifications for conformance to applicable building codes and regulations; and performs related duties as assigned.

** NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:
• Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.
• Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

What does the City of Henderson offer?

  • Currently, Teamster employees earn a Medical Benefit Allowance in the same amount as their monthly insurance premium, and as such, there is no cost for insurance coverage. Teamster employees also have access to the Teamsters Local 14 Family Wellness Centers, which offers plan members high-quality, confidential primary care services, access to certain prescription drugs, and lab work at no out-of-pocket cost to members and enrolled dependents. There are two Family Wellness Center locations, one in Henderson and one in the Northwest part of the valley.
  • Typical working hours for this position will be Monday - Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • This position may be eligible for remote work up to two days per week; at least 50% of work time must be spent in-person onsite.
  • Work schedules and remote work opportunities are subject to change.
  • This option for remote work is only available for incumbents who have completed their probationary/qualifying period.
External candidates (concurrent only), probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range, if selected.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED AT ALL LEVELS WITHIN THE COMBINATION PLANS EXAMINER SERIES
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • Must possess one (1) of the following at the time of application:
    • Two (2) years of full-time experience as a Building or Fire Plans Examiner
    • Four (4) years of full-time experience as a Building or Fire Inspector
    • Registration as a Professional Architect by the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design (NSBAIDRD) or Professional Engineer by the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (NVBPELS)
    • Certification as a Building Plans Examiner by the International Code Council (ICC)
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Employee will be expected to complete assigned training courses through the City of Henderson's learning management system
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained at incumbent's expense
  • Employee must maintain certificates and licenses for the position in good standing as a condition of continued employment
  • Desirable: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field of study
  • Note: Non-competitive upgrade to a higher-level Combination Plans Examiner classification may be considered as additional certifications (as determined by the City) are obtained
