Job description

Position Summary
This position plays a crucial role in visually representing the institution's brand, messaging, and mission across a wide range of digital and print platforms. This position ensures that all visual materials support and enhance the Seminary's messaging, foster engagement with key audiences, and uphold the integrity of the Asbury Seminary brand. The Graphic Designer collaborates with departments and schools across the institution to develop and execute design solutions that effectively convey strategic messages, clear branding, and support organizational goals.
Essential Functions (With Key Responsibilities)
1. Visual Brand Management
  • Ensure consistent application of the institutional brand guidelines across all visual communications.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive visual asset library, including logos, photography, illustrations, and templates.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Specialist and other team members to ensure visual content aligns with strategic messaging.
  • Provide guidance and support to other Seminary departments on brand compliance for their visual materials.

2. Print Design
  • Design and prepare print-ready files for a variety of collateral, including magazines, brochures, flyers, posters, invitations, and stationery.
  • Work closely with external vendors (printers) to ensure high-quality production and adherence to specifications.
  • Manage print projects from conception to completion, including quote requests, proofing, and delivery coordination.

Digital Design
  • Create engaging and visually appealing graphics for the Seminary's website, social media channels, email campaigns, digital signage, and online material.
  • Collaborates with the Web Developer (LITS) to design and develop innovative digital solutions, including apps, websites, and intranet tools, while applying up-to-date UI/UX principles.
  • Optimize digital assets for various platforms and screen sizes.
  • Maintain and organize design files and digital assets.

Campaign & Event Support
  • Design visual elements for institution-wide campaigns, including event and fundraising marketing materials, promotional items, and event signage.
  • Create compelling visuals that capture the essence of the Seminary's events and initiatives.
  • Develop and adapt creative concepts for different communication channels and target audiences.
  • Contributes to event documentation by assisting with photography and videography at institutional gatherings.

Creative Concept Development & Execution
  • Brainstorm and develop original design concepts that effectively communicate desired messages.
  • Participate in creative meetings, offering fresh perspectives and innovative design solutions.
  • Present design concepts to internal stakeholders and incorporate feedback effectively.

Required/Preferred Skills
1.
Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
2.
A strong portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of design work across print and digital platforms, highlighting creativity, technical proficiency, and an understanding of design principles.
3.
Excellent understanding of typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy.
4.
Proven ability to translate complex information and abstract concepts into clear, engaging visual designs.
5.
Experience with preparing files for both digital and print production, including understanding of CMYK, RGB, resolution, and bleed.
6.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
7.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
8.
A keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, error-free work.
9.
Ability to take constructive feedback and iterate on designs.
10.
A maturing and contagious Christian experience, commitment to the Wesleyan doctrine and experiences defined in the statements of faith and ethos of Asbury Seminary.
11.
Experience working in a higher education institution.
12.
Knowledge of web accessibility standards for digital design.
13.
Basic photography skills to assist with content creation.
Education/Experience
1.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field.
2.
3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design, preferably within an in-house creative team or agency setting.
