Job description

POSITION TITLE: Researcher
DEPARTMENT: New Organizing
REPORTS TO: Director
SALARY: $79,500.00
LOCATION: 498 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10018
Job Functions:
  • Identify and screen organizing targets within the healthcare industry in 1199UHWE states.
  • Research healthcare providers using a wide variety of sources including published databases, online and internet sources as well as informational interviews with the Union, political, government and industry experts.
  • Conduct local and field research on companies and industries.
  • Develop well-written and persuasive analysis of hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies for targeting, organizing and bargaining issues.
  • Develop healthcare industry expertise, including financing, operations, and policy.
  • Assist directors and researchers with components of major organizing, contract, and corporate campaign projects.
  • Effectively manage a caseload with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Work effectively with organizing staff, field servicing staff, workers, and fellow researchers.
  • Periodically participate in probing, blitzes and collective bargaining.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferable in economics, business, or labor studies.
  • Experience in labor or political research.
  • Extensive writing experience.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, database and spreadsheet programs and online research (Word, Access and Excel preferred)
  • Knowledge of SAS or SPSS preferred.
  • Must successfully pass the SEIU researcher test
  • Some travel is required.
  • Proficient in mathematics
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
