About the Team:
As the Senior Director, Brand Communications, you will report to the VP, Brand Marketing, to lead and shape our corporate communications function at a pivotal moment in our growth in support of the Medidata brand and Life Science Engagement (LSE) portfolio of brands. This role will oversee Public Relations, Internal Communications, and Social Marketing, bringing strategic clarity, operational excellence, and strong leadership across all communications channels.
Responsibilities:
This is a highly visible role with meaningful influence across the organization. This role is critical to building our brand, strengthening market perception, and supporting revenue growth. The ideal candidate is equal parts strategist and operator: someone who can set direction, inspire teams, and ensure consistent, high-quality execution.
  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day direction across PR, Internal Communications, and Social & Content.
  • Develop and evolve an integrated communications strategy that supports business goals, brand positioning, and executive priorities.
  • Establish frameworks, processes, and standards that enable teams to do their best work.
  • Foster a culture of high standards, collaboration, and thoughtful execution.
Leadership, Influence & Collaboration
  • Directly manage senior leaders within each function, fostering alignment, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Serve as a key comms advisor to executive leadership, Head of Marketing, and the VP of Brand Marketing and a trusted communications leader across the company.
  • Build strong relationships with the broader Marketing org, Product Marketing, Sales, Executive Leadership, and the Parent Company.
Public Relations & Executive Visibility
  • Oversee external communications, including press releases, thought leadership, executive interviews, speaking opportunities, and media outreach.
  • Ensure messaging is accurate, compelling, and grounded in a deep understanding of the business and products.
  • Partner with agency teams to drive strong media relationships and consistent execution.
Internal Communications
  • Lead the company's internal communications strategy in close partnership with the executive team.
  • Ensure internal messaging reflects leadership voice and tone while reinforcing company priorities and culture.
  • Drive clarity, consistency, and engagement across company-wide communications.
Social Media, Content & Podcast
  • Provide strategic direction for social media, blogs, and the company's podcast.
  • Ensure content efforts align with overall communications and brand strategy, in particular Public Relations.
  • Lead the next phase of the company podcast, expanding its reach to strengthen the brand and elevate executive visibility.
Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of communications experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Proven experience leading PR and internal communications in a B2B environment; SaaS, healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience partnering closely with executive leadership, including CEOs.
  • Track record of building and leading high-performing teams and managing agency partners.
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational instincts.
  • Excellent storyteller and editor with a sharp eye for clarity and tone.
  • Able to quickly understand complex businesses and translate them into compelling narratives.
  • Confident, thoughtful leader who builds trust across senior stakeholders.
  • Calm, organized, and effective in high-visibility environments.
The salary range posted below refers only to positions that will be physically based in New York City. As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region. The base salary pay range for this position located in New York is $184,500-$215,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
