Location Overview
State & Lake Chicago Tavern is located within the renowned theWit Chicago, a Hilton Hotel in the heart of Chicago's Loop. This high-volume restaurant and bar serves a diverse mix of hotel guests, local professionals, tourists, and theatergoers, benefiting from its prime location near the Chicago Theatre, Riverwalk, and major business and entertainment districts. With a dynamic service environment and strong connection to one of downtown Chicago's leading lifestyle hotels, the restaurant offers an exciting opportunity for hospitality leaders to drive exceptional guest experiences and operational excellence.
About the position
The Assistant Manager at theWit Hotel is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of State and Lake Chicago Tavern. This role requires strong leadership skills to ensure that service standards are maintained or exceeded, enhancing the brand and guest satisfaction. The position involves managing staff, operational efficiency, and guest services in a high-volume restaurant.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure day-to-day business operations run smoothly
  • Assist with training and administrative duties; assist financials / statement preparation; and assist the GM with guest service inquiries
  • Organize, run and supervise smooth and efficient daily opening and closing shifts, ensuring an exceptional guest and team experience; including preparing and reconciling banks, conducting pre-shifts, writing daily recaps, and doing restaurant walk-throughs
  • Managing all employees, including assisting in training, coaching, supporting, and disciplining
  • Help execute private events, special activations, and community initiatives
  • Assist GM in managing costs, driving sales and growing the business in support of financial goals
  • Managing R&M for the restaurant through approved contractors as needed
  • Assisting in the execution of monthly inventory
  • Writing schedule for Front of House staff while taking into account team member's strengths and weaknesses, business levels, special events, and budgeted labor
  • Model and promote teamwork across all teams
  • Use tact and good judgment when dealing with challenges pertaining to guests, vendors and employees, and respond with patience and courtesy
  • Work a variety of days and shifts (including early mornings, late nights and weekends) as needed

Requirements
  • At least 1 or more years of recent experience in the same position in a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant setting
  • Skilled in leading and developing teams
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Have experience with OpenTable, Micros, and Microsoft Office
  • Have extensive food and beverage knowledge
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends
  • Are knowledgeable about hotel service
  • Food Safety and BASSET certification

Physical Requirements:
  • Lift and move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Safely and effectively use all necessary tools, equipment, and cleaning chemicals
  • Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant which may include stairs, uneven, and/or slick surfaces
  • Ability to bear exposure to hot and cold environments

Compensation
  • $55,000 - 60,000 per year
