Job description

The Los Angeles Angels are currently seeking a Painter working full-time hours (up to 40 hours week) on a temporary basis. Length of assignment is TBD but it will be less than 1 year.
This is a bargaining unit position, hourly pay for Journeyman level for this position is $32.65per hour. Union dues are $11.50 per pay period (2 times a month) and an additional 1.25%.
The employee will be eligible for 12 game tickets, merchandise discounts, sick pay and 401K eligibility of employee contributions after 3 months. Due to the temporary nature of the position, benefits are not offered.
Overview:
Under minimal supervision, the Painter performs routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting large structures; performs inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment at Angel Stadium.
Duties:
  • Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, such as high steel and structural steel painting, needle scaling, and preparation for enamel, epoxy, and latex painting
  • Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
  • Covers trims, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep them free of paint
  • Sets up ventilators and other safety equipment to protect Painters from unhealthy fumes
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies like paint brushes, rollers and tarps Paint with brushes, rollers, airless gun, pot gun and cup gun
  • Cleans machines, equipment and work areas using water, solvents and other cleaning aids
  • Repair and replace vinyl or ceramic tile and cove base
  • Works with Bondo for patching and repairing surfacing
  • Prepares surfaces with Sika, structural foam and other products to seal concrete joints
  • Installs fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP)
  • Climbs ladders and scaffolding
  • Reviews and completes work orders and assignments via assigned Electronic Hand Held device
  • Drives carts to different locations in stadium to perform job
  • Perform other job related duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Journey level experience as maintenance painter
  • Knowledge of the principles of painting and refinishing
  • Ability to safely and efficiently use painting equipment, match colors and prepare surfaces for application of paint and other coatings
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations and safe disposal of hazardous waste materials
  • Knowledge of various types of coatings and sealants, and specific requirements
  • Ability to learn and apply all applicable safety precautions and requirements
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Drivers license with satisfactory driving record

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to frequently stand for extended periods of time (up to 3 hours at a time)
  • Must be able to frequently walk, climb stairs and ladders
  • Must be able to frequently use both arms and hands
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, tolerate odors and work in inclement weather
